Title: Gowdy Moves to Defund Amnesty Order on Legal Grounds
Post by: red_dirt on January 14, 2015, 12:06:53 PM
Rep. Trey Gowdy (R-S.C.) defended Republican efforts to defund President Barack Obama's immigration action as a legitimate use of Congress' power of the purse, and said the defunding vote is long overdue.  Well done video recording of Rep. Gowdy's statement in House.

Good find! Strong words, too! His essential point is absolutely valid -- the entire fight is not about partisan politics, but about the Constitution and the separation of powers crafted by the Founders precisely because they feared a president such as the Kenyan, and such as FDR before him. They feared an "imperial presidency," an office that would accumulate kingly powers in one man and usurp the proscribed role of the Congress as the sole source of law.

And he is correct that, if not quickly stopped, this sort of thing will continue with future presidents. That being said, I think it's fair to point out that historically, it has been liberal/progressive Democrats who have generally sought to abuse the separation of powers. (An exception might be Nixon, but the fact that he's an exception just proves the rule.) I'm proud that conservatives -- by their very definition -- have largely turned away from the activist path while serving as POTUS.

On the other hand liberals/progressives in the past century have moved Heaven and Earth to transfer power away from the representatives of the people and the states to the executive. Under the likes of Wilson, FDR, LBJ, and Carter, we've been "blessed" with every burden from the Departments of Education and Energy to the goddamned IRS. Throw in Social Security, Medicaid, and the rest of the welfare state for good measure.

Here is another link on it. The language gets a little complicated for the average voter,
such as myself. This whole field of unraveling, sorting out, Obama's racist BS, with his
executive orders and all, is going to  require the creation of a new legal or journalistic
specialty, i.e., public information about Obama's approach to life.
I've held back on this observation because I know it will strike a lot of people as
racist, but honestly, a lot of what Barack Obama does reminds me of Kingfish in the
old Amos and Andy comedy series. That was satire, but like a lot of satire or sarcasm,
it belies an underlying truth.
It is kind of like, "I am the man, now, I do whatever I want."
Rep. Gowdy is trying to educate Americans.
