Reading this, and LAUGHING...   A friend of mine bought 3 of those ORIGINAL GM Electric cars, before they were recalled by GM and junked.... hmmm 1990's...?  The movie, "Who Killed the Electric Car?" was a hit piece on GM and whoever, by environmentalists - FALSE.   It took parts from 3 of these to make 1 working EV, they were burnt up, cracked up - he figured the professors & staff deliberately tried to destroy them, just to get rid of them.

The EV cars were given to UWMadison staff to "try and test" - they deliberately broke them.  They were ice cold in the Wisconsin winters, and had a range of about 40 miles on a charge.  I rode in one of them.  It was like an enclosed golf cart.  This guy got it 100% charged, drove to my place, and plugged it in, the charger buzzed away like a golf cart charger, with a big ole extension cord running out of our apartment.. for hours!  It looked kinda like a "VW Thing".

So, that's what CURED me of ever wanting an electric car... forever.   I'll take a turbo-charged Diesel Truck, with an 18k towing capacity, 1.5 ton hauling capacity and rides like a sedan over this other junk.  When I want FULL POWER, those turbos deliver 100%, whether I'm just starting out, or 600 miles down the road.  15min, it's fully "recharged" for another 500 miles... the only interruption is draining "My" lower unit.

As far as Liquid Fluoride Thorium Reactor (LFTR) - Dickfoster - if you think it's really the answer, ping Elon Musk, I bet he's been asked/answered that question, hundreds of times.
It's a pipe dream, and you're derailing the thread, should have started somewhere else, IMO.

RV is DEAD ON - we're both surprised how easily Americans just folded up and said, OK, I'll wear a mask, shut down, etc., so, the real question is, IS IT COMING AGAIN - and are we gonna get blindsided and shut down the economy AGAIN for Biden?
All animals are created equal; Some just take longer to cook.   Survival is keeping an eye on those around you...

It worked and the physics is all there and proven. Its no pipe dream but it may be way over a lot of peoples heads while many don't want to acknoledge it simply because it's a game changer. 7

Quote from: dickfoster on May 24, 2021, 11:14:50 AMActually if we had enough LFTRs in place we really wouldn't batteries because we could have enough cheap clean energy to produce enough hydrogen to run cars on. Batteries add conversion steps which adds ineffeciency  plus they add weight and limit range. When looking at viable options one needs to start at the beginning and consider each step, not just cherry pick the good stuff. That's why splar and wind are so stupid now, no one looks at the whole picture, just what they want to hear. And that's why liberal arts degreed shitforbrains types should sit down and STFU on anything energy related. They simply aren't equipped to understand anything involving physics.

IMHO, the problem isn't a matter of education nor understanding. The problem is that claimed "educated" people are deliberately weighing in on energy related issues even though they are fully aware that they have no clue. The uneducated masses think that somehow a degree in anything makes one an expert in everything. They are leading the country down a miserable, energy less, ridiculous path all in the name of "global warming/climate change. All one needs to do is look at liberal states like Commiefornia and it becomes apparent that they haven't a clue but, intend to make everyone suffer anyway.

Yeah somehow they can't see that a degree in gay art history does't make them a friggin physicist.
