Quote from: Hoofer on March 10, 2021, 07:57:20 AMI'm a pretty optimistic person, most people say. Trusting the Lord, He's been my ultimate provider, and blessed me with a wonderful Wife & eight kids. I'm not a financially well-off person, but, trust God to continue to meet our needs, and He's come through, over and over again, we're quite thankful.Merrick Garland was approved with a 70-30 vote for Attorney General. IMO, this guy is a far left, nut-job.Biden already halted several pipeline projects - energy costs are rapidly rising. I think that's just the start of the New Green Deal implementation (tax us and sent it elsewhere). Joe Biden is expected to sign into law the $1.9T bill that isn't needed, and pushing America faster towards Bankruptcy. Financially, it looks like we're a nation in ruin. Anyone with any money... I can't imagine the government not coming for it, same with every 401k or ROTH IRA. Tax everything, everyway they can, eventually making us all poor, dependent upon the graciousness of the Government. So, if you have a plan, what's yours? Food - Energy - Tax avoidance where possible. I'd like to hear some creative ideas, besides living in a cave.
Quote from: Possum on March 10, 2021, 08:39:32 PMKind of a catch 22 there, right now the government does not need it because they can just print money at will. Of course that will make money worthless. But then, all the 401's will be worthless too. Liberals must think their bank accounts are bullet proof, or their money is not in U.S. dollars. That should be public knowledge if that is the case.
Quote from: Hoofer on March 11, 2021, 10:11:32 AMI agree, but that doesn't offer any suggestions for insulating yourself/family from what's obviously rolling right at you. One of my friend's a is a multi-millionaire, living in Milwaukee, in a 850 squ ft house - he says, "I save myself rich" - like Solar suggested, he lives & looks like a pauper. His 1982 Toyota Celica is worth 10x what he paid for it, in spare parts... just stopped driving it, just getting too wobbly at 125,000 miles - not the car, he couldn't depress & hold the clutch/brake. So, Jim (I'll call him) has enough money, in CDs, Bonds, and quite conservative stocks, and CASH, he could live on a ZERO investment return to age 100 (he says), poor health and all. That's 30 years for him. Now, he's determined to move out of Milwaukee, and is looking at a $1.9M house, overlooking a beautiful lake, and when their health requires it, hiring 24/7 assisted living staff.I'm 100% sure, Biden & Harris, just as Hillary Clinton has lusted - want Jim's money. They can TAX his earning through capital gains, spending through sales taxes, a one time Millionaire's tax, earnings are pointless for him, he's around 3% annually. They can tax his property, $160k, raise his electric, water & sewer taxes, tax him for not having solar panels - they *want* his wealth, the money first.Bill Gates ... is buying land, and selling off Microsoft stock. Whether nefarious or just protecting his wealth, who really knows. My dad said often, "Grandpa said, buy land, they're not making it anymore."If I could... I'd start with 40 acres of crap for land, with a nice, private stream of vertically falling water. It would be the place where I would generate the electricity I needed - micro-hydro - and few people would want to venture my way, too small for them, small enough for me to defend. Then, I'd dig out a huge basement, into the side of the hill, if in the northern states, facing south, southern states, facing north. Deep enough into the earth for at least 1.5 stories deep. The basement would be 12' of clean height to the first floor. Pre-stressed slabs on top of that basement, seal it very well, insulate it, seal that well, and build a small 20-30' "shack" on top of that, with an elevator in the closet to get to the basement... where I'd live. From the road, it's just a little cottage, where Hoofer & Wifey sit in their rocking chairs, watching a flickering TV, and a dog can be heard occasionally barking, when someone drove up the driveway, or rang the bell. Of course, the flickering was really a bunch of LEDs, randomly turning on and off, to simulate the TV, the barking dog, is the door bell, hooked up to proximity sensors, strategically placed around the house, with low LUX CCD cameras recording every moment, or everyday in HD. The windows are covered with translucent fabric, so... you couldn't really see in, just shadows. And when someone got close to the door, the dog snarling naturally was just the amplifier volume, blaring out the sound of 2 Dobermans, with claw scratching sounds at the windows, and what looked like a nose against the curtain, was just a piece of cardboard, on an actuator or solenoid, flipping up & vibrating against the window. When we managed to ascend the elevator from our 2000' squ ft' underground palace, we'd say to the "dogs" - "Shut up", and they'd magically disappear under the dusty old sofa by the window, being silent. We answer the door, maybe put on a pot of coffee from the half bare cupboards, fish out a half used can of evaporated milk, and dust off the chairs, sit around the old kitchen table, offer them the dusty, worn out sofa if they wanted to spend the night (they'd refuse), and in a little while bid them "farewell, drive careful, there's occasionally a bear or a skunk out there - we seldom see any deer."They leave, we put the "dogs back on guard duty" and gracefully descend back to our 2000' underground palace in the earth. a place, where Sola Tubes bring lots of natural light to our level, and LEDs supplement the rest. Where we have on one end, 3 sections of food storage, 20' deep, naturally cooled Root Cellar, Dry storage for canned & dehydrated food, and a built in, walk in, super insulated freezer, cooled by that nice flowing stream. The water from that stream also feeds our plumbing, and the septic tank is located 10' below the level of the basement, so we *never* get a plugged toilet again (I hate that). The shower & tub is heated through waste energy from the micro-hydro, or whatever means we discover, but none of this is "On Grid". The house is well ventilated, & well insulated, heating & cooling is practically nil, but air exchangers do the job of bringing in fresh air & filtering and pre-tempering it to our comfortable living temperature. When the Tax Man comes around, all he sees is a little 20x30' old shack, with a whisp of smoke curling out of it occasionally - and hears the snarling of a couple of viscous Dobermans. As a warning, there's a sign at the driveway gate, just for effect...Caution: MONKEES!Their bite is quite painfuland highly infectious! Some of you will remember that signage story... It's all true!
