Thanksgiving Blues - It happens... over and over.

The exhaust/flue/draft blower came apart on the furnace a couple of days ago.  That wasn't expected, or planned for.  UGH!  Found one on Ebay, hope to have it before Thanksgiving, when the house will be filled with people (and we'll probably turn on the AC).  Until then, it's a chilly home.

Meanwhile, it's clear skies and lots of solar energy ... I can't tap.  Never got around to building those cheap solar AIR panels, and suffering because of it.

Thanksgiving breakdowns include:
Septic tank inlet getting plugged (had to dig it up, and get it going again, with a stick)
Electric element on oven burns out (right at the start of the big cooking, in the morning)
LP tank goes dry... my bad, I thought, oh well.  We lost heat and cooking that day.
Furnace blower fails, no heat.  (this week).
Video Projector Bulb fails (this week, but, I had a spare, whew!)
Well Pump fails - yup, Wednesday of course.
Solid State Oven control fails.  We rigged up a thermostat and Thanksgiving went on.
36Lb Turkey is too big for any bag... and almost too big for the oven.

What is expected, someday...
Power goes out, and stays out, generator does not run and battery bank goes flat.
Freak Hurricane, Snow storm, or some other major weather event.
Turkeys finally figure out what's up and skedaddle into the woods, hiding out in the biggest Poison Ivy patch in Virginia.

... and that's why I ask for the whole week off of work.   To fix all that stuff.

Damn. Time consuming and costly to boot, and to add insult to injury, a well pump goes out?
Now that's timing. :woot:

Ah Hell, I meant to quote Hoofer.

Our house pump went out as well, had to buy a new one, cost simply ain't cheap.
Then the next week we noticed the holding tank getting low, even though the solar pump was pumping.
Seeing how it was brand new, I assumed a leak in the pipe from the spring it pumps from, so I dug up the line, and shock, it was  the pump.
Because I didn't rebuild one of the many back ups I have , I had to overnight another pump and send this one in for replacement.

What was funny, I called Surflo and told them my problem, she said hold on, I'll get you a ph#.
She came back and gave me my own ph# for warranty repair.
Appears I'm the only guy left that rebuilds their deep well pumps.
I explained that I had retired and to remove me from their website.

3-4 of us can pull it in 15 minutes, 100' or so of tubing.  But, everytime we uncap it, and fiddle with it, the well gets sterlized again - which means, NO WATER for 48hrs (circulate it for 5-6hrs, let it sit overnight, and then pump and pump and pump until the bleach smell is gone...)

We have 8 kids...

For Thanksgiving, we have another family (all 9 of them), over, and a few other guests.   We'll eat-our-way-thru-the-day, and have a big meal of Ham & Turkey...   Watch the games, tell tall tales, tease the dogs, feed the ducks, and give THANKS to the Lord.  That's what we're trying to teach our kids, a thankful spirit.

At least it was only 100'. Most wells around here are now approaching 600' due to the drought and libs, so pulling a pump not only takes hours and a winch, but in most cases a huge bill from a well driller to pull it for them.

I used to drill wells in my area, and most wells 20 years ago averaged 100' with a 50' reservoir, now, with the influx of Bay Area trash (BAT's) coming up and starting vineyards, they've sucked the water table down several hundred feet.
