I used to earn my living as a "techie", I consider myself less than ignorant but, no expert by any means. So when our internet kept shutting down at 6:45 every night, I got ahold of Spectrum. I figured they'd be up on all the latest and greatest and stupidly trusted them when I should have known better.

I called Spectrum and they could see where our network shut down at  6:45 every night but, had no answers. After some deliberation they decided to send out a "technician" to find and fix the problem. The "technician" stated that we had two splitters when there should only be one and that the cable to our house was black when it should be orange. He went on to tell me that the black cable is old and not used any more.

So, the "technician" replaced the cable and removed the second splitter. The last thing he said to me was if the problem persists that I should run down to the Spectrum store and get a new modem, for FREE, as it's part of the service we're paying for.

Of course the problem persisted and our network stopped at exactly 6:45 p.m.

The next day I ran down to the Spectrum store and got that "Free" modem that I was assured would correct the problem.

I switched out the modem and absolutely NOTHING would work afterwards. My printer no longer worked, my Network Storage Unit no longer worked, my router no longer worked and I had no Internet connectivity.

Needless to say, I put my old modem back on-line and took the other Spectrum modem back to the Spectrum store. The damage was already done and I had to totally reconfigure my network in order to make it work again. It turns out that Spectrum suddenly would not allow the IP address I was using but, of course, Spectrum did not relay that information to either me nor the "technician".

I am telling everyone all of this as a warning. First of all, don't believe that your Internet Service Provider (ISP), will tell you anything. Secondly, don't trust them to help you. Last but, not least, never, Never, NEVER believe what they tell you, they haven't a clue!

I am still having a problem connecting to my NAS. I believe that I may have figured out what I need to do and how to fix it.

If I can find cheap, reliable internet, I am dropping cable. I can find a suitable free or cheap streaming service for my entertainment needs.
