It is only missing if your looking for it.

I was reading about this yesterday and its glaringly obvious those involved are angry with jealousy.
They feel they did all the hard work and some kid came in and scooped the whip cream right off the top of the cake, and the party was almost ready to start.

Just when we were about to solve it, but we had more important work to do.

Snooze, ya lose!

The last two paragraphs say it all:

"Whenever I speak to people who have influence, politicians and so on, they sometimes ask me 'Why should I invest in physics pure research?'. And I sometimes say to them: 'Do you use a mobile phone? Some of that technology came about by black hole research'.
"The pure research has knock-on effects to the whole society which are sometimes difficult to anticipate."
