I hate XP with a passion, most unfriendly OS they've made to date.
They rearrange the menu from one system to the next, hide most of the stuff you normally access.
And now they're coming out with Windows 8?

I use a netbook for it's ease of transporting. The problem is that all netbooks to date have single core 1.6gb processors. Win7 really sucks the memory.

The wife has my old netbook with XP. It will boot up in about 30 seconds. Her old computer that we purchased in 2001 also had XP, and we never had an issue with software. If I could, I would revert to XP.

I just noticed I said XP when I meant Vista.
XP was by far a better OS than that piece of shit Vista.

I wanted a good gaming system, so I splurged a bit, still just under $900.0

So I bought a new Dell yesterday, be here in a couple of weeks, with Win 7.
Also bought a 32' monitor, actually its an HD LCD TV, got tired of the little crap.
1  XPS 8300
1  XPS 8300, Intel Core i5-2320 processor(6MB Cache, 3.0GHz)
1  8GB DDR3 SDRAM at 1333MHz - 4x2GB
1  Dell Consumer Multimedia Keyboard
1  AMD Radeon HD 6770
1  1 Tera Bite Serial ATA 2 Hard Drive 7200 RPM
1  Windows Live Wave 4
1  You have chosen a Windows 7 System
1  Dell Resource DVD with Application Backup
1  THX TruStudio PC
And much more, hope this thing does what they claim it can.

:scared: Vista reminds me of Crash95, and the (barely upgraded) upgrade of Crash98. Both were also POS OS's.
I did like the NT OS's. They were stable. I never tried Linux or any of the APPLE OS's. I hear that Linux is super stable, but there are software/hardware compatibility issues.

I'm hoping Win 7 finally got it right.
Mac like Linux is good, but you have to buy progs for Apple for just about every app.
I agree Linux is good, but to me, its like a puzzle getting the right progs to work.
I just don't have that kind of patience to sit and tweak everything anymore.
My days of fascination over the pooter are more than a decade past, used to love it, now its like going to the dentist.
Thats why instead of tinkering with my current pooter, I just bought a new one instead.

It's a PC world, kids, as much as Apple's execs would love for you to think otherwise. I have to say that I admire Bill Gates for sputtering his way up through the early tangle of popular computing with a lame OS he'd bought from someone else... and turning it into a gazillion-dollar goldmine.

XP takes FOREVER to boot, is RIDDLED with updates, fixes, patches, etc., is SLOW as HELL in some applications... The litany of hate is endless. But it's what's on the machine I'm using right now -- because it works.

Apple and OSX.whatever is cool, I suppose. Didn't it used to be Macintosh? Yes, it did.

Now THAT is failure.
