MS Streets & Trips alternative?

We've used MS Streets & Trips 2013 ... right up until it somehow was "switched off" on our computer.
I used it with a GPS module, in the truck, and it was my preferred method of navigation - I had lots of locations stored.  Some new roads were added, and when we took them just turned on the tracing to sort of mark the alternative roads... no biggie.

I need something that is NOT internet connected/dependent, like my Iphone.  We often venture into non-internet areas, cell phone data-dead counties, which render *any* Iphone mapping program useless the moment you make a change in route.

Any suggestions?  Something that is completely self-contained on the PC (I have several GPS modules).

I use a full off road GPS map in my Garmin GPS unit, updates all the time. The nice thing about the off road version is it has all the roads, highways, freeways as well as trails.
Cell phone GPS can really suck when you get too far from a cell site, and with just one, it can really throw you off.

My Iphone has sent me down some terrible roads (gravel & dirt), not to mention being directed OFF the interstate, down city streets in DC and back onto the same interstate, on the same location - about supper time - really pissed me off!   At least with MS Streets, I could easily see the whole map.

I'll look into Garmin, my old hand held was what I used before I got MS Streets.

I have GPSMAP 65 Series, totally dependable, but you might just be interested in the In Reach model.
The cool thing about it is its two way satellite communication model.

I think mine is a Garmin GPSMap 76s... yeah, it's an old one.  Used it on the boat, hiking... and I have the 2-3 sets of maps & water ways stuff for navigation offshore.  Plugged into the Laptop, it was essential for finding my way back thru the inlets (.. you know what the WIND could do, wedge you into a sandbar or something only an idiot would do, right?)

Before WAAS was active, I almost ran into a Bouy @ 40 knots, one of the kids was giving me turns, following the 'track back' and I was about 100 ft off course.   After WAAS went active, it had me down to about 6' or better accuracy.  Without the power adapter, that thing burns thru batteries FAST... always carried an extra set.
