Um, there are things called "finish nails" that might have served the purpose a bit better, having practically no head on them to maneuver the wound spring and wire tie combination around.
Just a thought.
I've been rebuilding Briggs & Stratton stuff since I was a kid, and those old recoil starters were always a bitch. But we didn't have cable ties in those days. Usually when one broke, it was the anchor end of the spring that simply snapped off. You had to take the spring out and basically carve a new end on the spring with a bench-mounted grinder, then hook it in the starter housing and start winding.
I wish I still had that old MotoMower.
Yeah. His method needed a little refining, but it worked great. Now if I could get Uncle Sam to stop forcing ethanol in the gasoline, my stuff would keep running well for years. :mad:
