Yep. I'm just a leftist "big government" type.

The people that owned the beachfront homes in one area here, actually put up a bit of a fight. They argued that they weren't denying beach access to anyone; that if people wanted to go to the beach, they could just go around their property to get there. Yeah right. Sounds okay, but going around, (in many cases), would involve walking for miles.

We have one island here that is a fiefdom for the rich and well connected. It's where John Edwards went into hiding. I can't go there unless I'm invited or rent a house there.

Yes, it happened in Ca all up and down the coast back in the 70s.
Even Lake Tahoe had a serious issue and they're in the process of working it out.
People tend to forget that a little Govt has it's purpose, but lump all things Govt in with big govt.

Like I said, imminent domain was designed to protect everyone, but when you have huge projects like the XL, people tend to forget and blame big faceless industry using Govt to do their dirty work, when in truth, if not for imminent domain rules, 90% of the country would still be on foot stuck in communes.

As far as the pipeline goes, they can do it without completely screwing the land owners. If they attempt to give them pennies on the dollar for their property, or don't compensate them enough to be able to relocate...I'm with Shooterman.

That's why I believed the Kelo decision should have came with an addendum, all land bought forcefully solely to profit another, should pay 5 times the assessed value, and the assessment will be done by two external entities.

Imminent domain also protects rights of way, once a right of way is established, it's virtually irreversible, so one is guaranteed their property easement will be there when the time comes to sell or pass along to family.

We need sources of supply other than the Middle East and that is the bottom line.  The greenies drive their Lexus and Suburban and have other to do with protecting the envioroment.  I am sick of trhe BS they put out.  Bring us the oil we need it.
The Golden Rule is the only rule we need.

Agreed. We need to become independent of Arab oil. If any property owners are displaced they will be paid for their land.

Will we be required to fill in the image and south eastern state questions with each post we make? Or, does that go away after awhile?d

Welcome Willow.
The question should go away after the first time, it could be that you aren't saving cookies or refreshed your browser yet.
Bare with it, if you continue to have problems, just holler.

It took me about 20 posts. Not a huge deal, but I was glad when it stopped.

Yeah, necessary evil, if we didn't do it, we'd have nearly 100 bots a day posting spam.

Don't get me wrong; I wish to see the pipeline. My question is how does this differ from Kelo?

Energy, communication, water and public right of way, the original intent behind the law (not KELO), and it appears to be covered.
Without the act, the west would still be arid and inhabitable in many areas.

And sadly, the law still stands after nearly 100 years, and like it or not, energy take precedence.
We all need oil, we either buy in from a friendly neighbor, or support terrorists, your choice.

Does this not condemn property for the use and benefit of a corporation that can sell that oil on the world market?
