US adults are dumber than the average human.

Interesting article, I am surprised that it is in the New York Post.

snip~
WASHINGTON — It's long been known that America's school kids haven't measured well compared with international peers. Now, there's a new twist: Adults don't either.

In math, reading and problem-solving using technology – all skills considered critical for global competitiveness and economic strength – American adults scored below the international average on a global test, according to results released Tuesday.

Adults in Japan, Canada, Australia, Finland and multiple other countries scored significantly higher than the United States in all three areas on the test. Beyond basic reading and math, respondents were tested on activities such as calculating mileage reimbursement due to a salesman, sorting email and comparing food expiration dates on grocery store tags.

Not only did Americans score poorly compared to many international competitors, the findings reinforced just how large the gap is between the nation's high- and low-skilled workers and how hard it is to move ahead when your parents haven't.

That's what happens when the right wing relentlessly slashes funding for schools and science in general, as well as punishing anybody that wants an education by forcing them into years of debt through student loans. This is only going to get worse and worse.

These trolls are so ignorant, it's hard to know where to start. Everything they say and do is just so far detached from reality, it's pathetic. Truly brainwashed.

Are you seriously implying that schools don't need good funding to give good educations? Instead of trying to explain to you that education statistics prove that you are wrong, I'm going to try to appeal to your common sense. When a school doesn't get good funding they can't afford enough books, computers, allowances for teachers to spend on materials to help their students function in their class, and countless other things that are essential to a good education. It also means they can't afford to pay teachers as much as well as not being able to hire as many, so you have teachers working for less money, teaching MORE students. They are too overwhelmed with the amount of students they have to actually give 1 on 1 time to students that need it. Furthermore, public schooling being in the situation it is in causes people that would be great teachers to pick other, more profitable and more steady professions, because being a teacher is becoming less desirable by the day.

The accumulation of these and other problems are the reason why U.S education is going to shit. You can deny and deny and deny all you want, but the numbers speak for themselves. The right wing's neglect towards education and higher learning is completely responsible for this, and your ideology is going to drag it down even more.

Are you seriously implying that the schools and education in general, haven't received an obscene level of funding in the past, and wasted it  ?

You can't fix overfunding and waste with more funding, lol.

Perhaps you should write a stern letter to your left-nut hugging teacher's union to fix their contracts with the school districts to allow for more teachers to be hired and for the incompetent ones to be fired rather than keeping them and their retirement funds funded by the taxpayers. You're an idiot and way over your head in your feeble attempt to simplify this matter to "right-wing bad, they no like education."

Seriously, if you had even an ounce of legitimate common sense and the mental capacity to understand how your beloved public sector unions have decimated every public service in this nation, you would quickly realize how very wrong you and your ilk are.

The answer to the left is to continue to raise taxes to throw more and more money at the problem. That way, their union cronies keep getting the vote for them and keeping them in power. You think Democrats give a rat's ass about your kids? Ha! Just ask Reid about what he thinks about kids with cancer. Then you'll know if he cares more about kids or his political future. Wake up, take your head out of the sand, and stop posting because you really are embarrassing yourself with your stupidity.

Why does this need to come from government?

Take the unions out of the picture and give control to the school and/or municipality.

Why would I want some unskilled, inexperienced union loser spending more time with my kid (if I had a kid -- so I'll say nieces and nephews)?

Incorrect.  Government and unions are destroying the schools.  It doesn't take government and unions to get kids to do what they do naturally.

Washington DC has one of the highest per pupil expenditures in the US. How do you explain those results. It is not the money it is the unions, wasteful administrators and local governments who cannot manage a one car funeral that has ruined our government school systems. I didn't even get around to the inefficiencies created by a bunch of federal bureaucrats.

Go look up what the US spends per year on K-12 funding or check the state per pupil spending. Then you won't look like such an ass, crying "not enough money". We're on the internet - remember?

American education funding has been "slashed"???

Requiring students who choose unproductive degrees to repay their loans has somehow made the gigantically overblown percentage of "college" "educated" Americans not only poorer, but somehow... dumber than they would be if the debts were forgiven?

Don't take this the wrong way, but it's pretty obvious that every penny spent on your education was completely wasted.  And, assuming you went to school in America, that was a LOT of pennies.
