Clinton no savior in Michigan

It looks like Bill Clinton's lost some of his star power because he wasn't able to fill a high school gym on behalf of the Democratic Party candidate for Michigan's governorship - Link

The end of the article has a bit of surprise considering the Free Press rarely finds fault with anyone in the Democratic Party:

QuoteAfter the rally, Boyd said she's still conflicted about the gubernatorial contest and worries about a continuation of similar policies of the last eight years.

"Policies of the last eight years" refers to Michigan's own gubernatorial "blond" joke, Jennifer Granholm or as I refer to her, Governor Who.

The poor showing really makes the cockells of me heart warm, although it does surprise me.    Thanks for explaining the "policies of the last eight years" remark.  I was thinking nationally when I read that, and it just didn't make any sense.  Now it makes sense.

Without more to go on, I default to believing she was confusing Bush with Granholm. It could also be massively stupid editing. The Free Press and News alike make repeated spelling errors on 7th District candidate Walberg's name, spelling it like the movie star Wahlberg --- the News during the original draft of endorsing Walberg for Congress. (Someone fixed it within the hour, but that damage by then was done.)

Quote"They think that if they tell you often enough that you're not doing well that you won't go to the polls," U.S. Rep. John Conyers said. "But we're not buying that malarkey. If Detroit turns out as it has in the past, we win."

Monica Conyers, his wife and disgraced former Detroit City Council member, is in federal prison. The disgraced former Mayor, Kwame Kilpatrick, is in constant trouble, in and out of jail. (Along with half his posse.) At one point, a clear majority of City Council (all Dems) were under federal or state indictments.

Nothing will change in the city with basement-level academic levels and nationally-deplored high school graduation rates. Black leadership has utterly failed Detroit.

In the context of the Free Press I defer to your explanation.

Typically when the Freep mentions Granholm at all it's always in the form of praise without much context or content. Necessarily so of course since she's done just about nothing since she was elected governor except cut some sweet deals for some movie studios to open production facilities. Other then that, bupkus.

"the last eight years" was 2008 campaign jive these slugs are still running on in their empty echoing skulls. By force of habit these slugs repeat that mantra, forgetting entirely the two disastrous years of Obama we've endured since GWB departed --- *NOT* taking the typewriter "O" keys with him.

But let's say I'm dead wrong, that this woman was in fact saying she wondered why Granholm's eight years had not done what libs expected. Considering the hugely wasteful new State Police Headquarters that even the cops didn't think was necessary --- and how a pal of Granholm's nearly-invisible hubby --- it's clear at least SOME graft went into the pockets of Granholm's supporters.

The Michigan film credit bill is even shakier. While it does give incentives to start up schools to teach Michiganians how to compete in that industry, it also drains away money to film producers who wind up taking most of that money elsewhere. It's been a losing proposition, but the number of Michigan based films including "Stone," have increased.

I do not think the state really gains until the producers are forced to establish permanent offices here, not way-station bivouac tents.

Getting John Dingell and John Conyers out of office seem impossible at this point, though Dingell's got a scrappy opponent holding close in the polls. The governor's race has the Ann Arbor RINO and computer whiz-kid out ahead of the screaming lunatic billed as "America's Angriest Mayor. So that looks sweet for the GOP as well. (Well, less anemic.)

In the 7th District, Mark Schauer's crew has a temporary advantage, after Mark Walberg's campaign faked a photograph in a campaign ad, but Schauer will still lose because of party affiliation (just as Walberg did, losing to Schauer). Now Walberg has to show why he was worth bringing back. One struggles to recall what he did while in Congress.

I'm convinced Wayne County will be the sole Democratic-voting clear majority. Oakland will finally (barely) go "red," and join the rest of the state in mixed-return, GOP-leaning counties.

All this is is recognizing the other end of the tunnel has reopened. Now we have to move toward the light and the rescues.

Wayne County has ALWAYS been a Democrat stronghold.  I'm sure you must miss the days of "Governor John Engler".  Whatever happened to him?  He was sort of a "darling" of the Republican Party for awhile.

I shook his hand once at a campaign stop back in '04. He'd look good in a butcher's apron.

Big John served three 4-year terms and then went on to head the National Association of Manufacturers. http://www.nam.org/Shared/Staff-Contacts/Misc/John-Engler.aspx

He was succeeded by someone scraped up out of Ontario, because Dems decided if they were going to be anti-American, they needed a Canadian immigrant for the job.

From what I've heard - and I don't know how true this is - he married a woman who detested politics and wanted him out of politics.

He took a job with EDS after leaving the governorship. Too bad. Nobody would ever mistake him for a Kennedy but in terms of political acumen he was near the top of the class.

He had the acumen to know when to hand it off to the Trash Queen and let her take the fall for it. After 12 years the voters were ready for a change, even one who was good for Michigan. (We do that every so often. After that smarmy John Edwards-like dirtbag Blanchard (who I've talked to as well), I'm just surprised the Donks could get anyone elected at all, so they went for pulchritude and not smarts.)

The Donks once spouted nonsense about changing the U.S. Constitution so Granholm could run for President. She's now lucky if she can survive a run for cover. They handed America to another immigrant, and he doesn't even try to hide his distaste for the little guy.
