You ought to see it from closer up. Or maybe not.

I don't think Detroit's quite done going downhill but a couple of things may be emitting a gleam or two of light.

Dave Bing, the new mayor, seems to be, if not effective, not the sort of self-involved shit that Kilpatrick and Young and not as ineffectual as Dennis Archer. Similary, Snyder hasn't really made himself known yet but he doesn't look as if he's likely to be as ineffectual as his predecessor.

But we've got a long way to go. The UAW and the MEA still swing way too big a stick and the Dems had decades to build up a bank account of bad policy. Undoing it won't be easy or quick.
