CHARLESTON, S.C. -- Volvo Cars of North America signed an agreement today with South Carolina, where it will build its first U.S. factory.

Volvo reaffirmed the $500 million factory will begin production in late 2018 and make as many as 100,000 vehicles per year at capacity. The factory will be in Ridgeville, S.C., near the port of Charleston.

The Swedish brand said it estimates factory employment will grow to 2,000 in the next 10 years and "up to 4,000 people in the longer term."

QuoteCiting an economic impact analysis by Frank Hefner at the College of Charleston, Volvo estimated more than 8,000 jobs would be created as a result of the project and the plant would contribute approximately $4.8 billion in total economic output annually.

"BMW proudly welcomes Volvo Car Corporation to the Palmetto State," said Sky Foster, manager of corporate communications for BMW Manufacturing. "Today's announcement is another strong signal of the strength of South Carolina's manufacturing competitiveness and steadfast commitment to helping businesses grow and prosper."

When BMW announced it would build its first full manufacturing plant outside of Germany, the company pledged to invest $600 million, employ 2,000 workers by the year 2000, and attract at least nine suppliers to the state. Currently, there are more than 8,000 jobs on site and the company has invested nearly $7 billion in South Carolina.

Damn I love economic growth and right to work states.

Good, maybe now we'll finally get a well built Volvo.
Granted it's been decades since I worked on one, but they are the equivalence of a designers dream and an architects night mare.
The whole damn car is a mechanics cancer. No matter the problem, there will be hours of prep, just to fix a tiny problem.

The UAW is already complaining about SC being a RTW state. Gov. Haley said the citizens of SC know best whether they want to be in a union or not.

Yep, we've got to have somewhere for all those immigrants to work.  But first, we'll educate them, house them and feed them along with making sure they have the best medical care we can give them.  There won't be any unions either as the little immigrants will just be glad to be in America and be able to find work.  Somehow, I don't look at this situation as economic growth.  The only growth we'll see is the population and the advent of this new company will be just in time to take care of all those that will be flooding our gates.

Yep, she sure has turned out as such.  FYI, she didn't start out as a liberal.  She supposedly only wants traditional immigration and citizenship yet she turns around and is all in favor of the resettlement plan for SC (Sptbg., to be exact).   Nothing is known about the 60-65 refugees stated to be here shortly.  For all we know they are tied to terrorists.  The information on these is classified.  Yes, here we go again.  Keep our mouths shut and put these people in comfortable housing, meet their needs, whatever they may be, give them jobs.  At the same time they may be planning to poison our water supplies, blow up our buildings.  Who knows what may transpire from bringing people here from other countries that may or may not be here for the reasons that we have been given, which are very few.  When i say that the information on these refugees is classified, i'm speaking of the process by which they were screened.  This is such a big secret but why shouldn't we know whatever the process revealed?  I'm thinking that they just jumped on a boat and were pointed our way.  Rant over!

Key, do you have some sources on Haley?  If she's gone lib, then we need to expose her.

Only how she voted on the resettlement.  I'll look it up, is has been in our local news lately.

Get back with you.

www.Fitsnews.com/2015/04/22/nikki-haley-supports-spartanburg-resettlement-scam/

She's attracting alot of big business to SC but don't forget that we are a right to work state.  If you did some research on the companies we have had in Spartanburg that have left, you'd find a much better wage and benefits package than is being offered now.  When alot  of the companies bellied up, we were left with nothing but a long line at the employment office.  Jobs are returning now but you have to be retrained to get any of them and you won't have the same wage and benefit structure as in the past-much worse.  Some of the jobs are much like the ones we had in the past.  Experience in a workforce does you little good, you have to get the training.  I'm glad that I was able to retire.  I got a little dose of the retraining on my last job before I retired.  I have been a lab technician for most of my life except for one period as a supervisor in a steel mill for 7 years.  When my long term employer decided to fold I was 59 years old.  The prospects were bleak of getting a job like I had but within 3 weeks I got one.  Retrain as a lab tech?  I gritted my teeth and went thru it.  Little did they know that some of their little experiments had long been vacated by most of the main stream chemical companies but it didn't  take them long to figure out that they would have to adapt to stay in business.
