At first, I had no interest in Romney.  He seemed your generic politician; a lesser conscience than your ordinary person, and clearly a pathological liar.  Nothing about him deemed him worthy of becoming president of the United States.  He was completely unremarkable.

Yes.  Obviously, I am exaggerating slightly, but Romney never struck me as a very empathetic person.

The story goes back to July 1996 when the 14-year-old daughter of Robert Gay, a partner in Romney's new venture capital firm Bain Capital, disappeared. As it turned out, Melissa Gay had attended a rave party in New York City and had become high on ecstasy. Three days later, her distraught father had no idea where she was.

Romney swung into action. He closed down the entire firm in Boston and asked all 30 partners and employees to fly to New York to try to find Gay's daughter.

Romney set up a command center in a conference room at the LaGuardia Marriott. He hired a private detective firm to help with the search and established a toll-free number for tips, coordinating the effort with the New York City Police Department. He called everyone Bain did business with in New York and asked them to help his company find their friend's missing daughter.

So? Having a leader  who makes decisions with his brain and not with his heart may be very well what this country needs. And lack of empathy alone does not make someone a sociopath. You have to have an active desire to do harm to others. Like a certain Argentine t-shirt idol.

First of all, the victim's family denied that he was gay, not that he was bullied.  Second of all, Romney not only laughed when the topic was brought up, but admitted that it could have happened, he just forgot.  If he were a person of high moral integrity, he'd have known for certain that the story was bogus.

I've heard that story.  It does challenge my opinion (which I admit is simply my gut feeling), but we must keep in mind that the person in question was the daughter of someone very financially valuable to Romney.

It says more about the value of friendship and wanting to help regardless of cost, as evidenced by closure of the firm.

BTW, given the situation in Israel, and what's required of their people simply in daily life; I would venture to guess that Israelis wouldn't dream of abusing the system.

And, in your opinion what is the "truth" exactly. And how is AIPAC and different from all the other lobbies that attempt to influence the US government?
