It shows Bernie holding hands with Marx while admiring FDR.
FDR was the first socialist, he brought it to the US under the guise of corraling capitalism, while Bernie, on the other hand, despises capitalism, so he's torn between his relationship with Marx communism and his despotic view of capitalism.

I see. It just looked to me like bernie had a look of disdain for fdr and that didnt make sense cuz like u said fdr set the stage for bernie and others, but now i get it.

To this day I will never understand how so many of my parents generation, who were conservative in so many aspects. could vote for him.

We, today, cannot relate to how things were during the great depression. My Dad was a young man and fortunately got a job with Associated press he never left so he was better off than many. However, he was a dedicated democrat until the party abandoned him and he voted for Nixon. My impression listening to him that FDR got credit for helping because of the CCC and many other social programs. So many of this generation did not understand the Japanese got us out of the recession by bombing Pearl Harbor.

Believe you nailed it. I wonder if what little radio that existed and what passed for newspapers tried to sway the election as much as the lsm does today? When I listened to grandparents and my parents talk, they all said " he stopped the depression", it was one subject I would not debate them on out of respect.
