Seriously, he live a mile from as the crow flies, no one was home, don't know what started it.
I got there and all that was left was an 10" pile of debris.
Guns, computer, you name it, he lost it.

Man, this really sucks, I saw the smoke, but didn't realize how close it actually was, it's one of my biggest fears living up here, had it been a breezy day, it would have been out of control.
I know all the fire fighters, and they said it was completely gone when they got there, figured it had been burning at least an hour.

Thanks CL.
He's taking it pretty well considering he lost all his worldly goods.
No insurance because he bought the land with an unpermitted house on it, so it couldn't be insured even if he wanted to.
Dogs and chickens are OK at least.

OMG! That's awful. Thank God you are close.
Yeah, it's also a good thing I have two or three of everything I own, ST always buys more than we need, so we can resupply him with bedding, and all those kinds of things.

Was he insured?

Was he insured?
No, I was right behind him driving in.
I got a call from his daughter in Washington, she got a call from his neighbor trying to get message to my brother that his house was on fire.
He didn't even know it was his house that burned up.

So sorry to hear that Solar.
Yeah it sucks, but even as bad as it was, losing everything, it could have been much worse, it could have quickly gotten out of control.
But the one smart thing he did was clear a huge buffer around his home.

Thanks guys, I'll pass it along.
ST and I just took some things over and he is out trying to buy essentials.
Man, I can't even begin to imagine how much of a headache that must be.

This probably belongs in the survival forum, good topic to make a person think.

Sorry to hear that....I hope he was insured and I hope he can recover.

This is why it pays to have several stash sites for your guns, ammo, canned food and survival silver.

Any idea what started the fire? With a wide buffer zone around the house, one has to wonder.

Sorry for the young man.  Thank God no lives were lost and he has family near.  Even where we live we have a very large buffer around our home.  Most of the farmer all have big water tanker that are full and set to go 24/7 this time a year.  They know a little fire can turn in to a 1000 acres in no time.
