No, and that's a good thing. Since the coastal areas are subduction layers that are literally being eaten by the Sierra Nevada mtn range and cascade range as they're pushed down.
Meaning there is a a liquefaction belt between the two on the fault line which acts as a kind of buffer.

Way things are going in Oregon maybe the good guys ought to move further inland.

Does this mean that the megathrust quake - along with the giant tsunami - is about to wipe out the northwest? :scared:

I often hear that one day Cali will experience 'the big one' earthquake and much of the state will break off from the mainland. If that happens will you in the mountains still be connected to the mainland, or will the sierras go out to sea?

WHEN, it does happen, and only God knows when, the BAT Area and much of the valley may disappear.
The Coast Range is on the subduction zone, meaning the Sierra will rise and eat the coast.
It was doing this long before man arrived.

The San Andreas is moving Northward while the Sierra remains anchored, this is known as the "strike/slip". The thing is, this fracture is in no way smooth, more like to files rubbing against one another, so stress builds up, and like an over stretched rubber band, it snaps and releases its stress.

On the West side of the fault is the Bat are and LA, and at the same time this is taking place, the Farallon plate sits literally at the coast, at the edge of the Golden Gate bridge.
Add to that, when it finally goes, there will be a Tsunami like never seen before in history, literally flooding the Sacramento valley, and everything will disappear. But yes, I will be just fine, just a few miles to the ocean...

"The big one" will be any quake above an 8.0,
which would cause many building collapses, etc.

To separate LA, etc., from the mainland,
it will take thousands of "big ones" over millions of years
to move the land that much.

It's a very long ride, but it does get bumpy at times.
Here are the 10 RINOs who voted to impeach Trump on Jan. 13, 2021 - NEVER forget!

In a sense, yes, but liquefaction is what took out SF with a 7.0+. Where the ground literally turns into quicksand and everything settles below.
Everything on the Westside of the San Andreas fault is prone to literally disappearing.

"2012" was simply a bad movie. Cali is part of the Pacific plate and is simply moving that land Northwest, not West. The Juan De Fuca plate is subducting under North America, the melting of that plate is why they have the Coast Range with all those volcanoes. I'm wondering what's going to happen when the triple junction, where the plates meet, finally lets go. One theory is that "The Big One" - with the Pacific Plate striking the Juan De Fuca - will also cause that one to go. Producing a super quake in both plates.
