Are you wired to be a Republican?

A quick brain scan seems to reveal a person's political affiliation with impressive accuracy, finds new research.   Among participants who voted Democrat, gray matter showed more activation in the left posterior insula, the region linked with empathy and emotion. The other side of the brain was Republican territory: conservatives flexed their right amygdala more often when making decisions. That brain region is associated with fear, reward, and a fight-or-flight response.

Emotions have little place in government, imo.  Passion and drive is one thing, but emotion clouds pragmatic descision.

Same as logical debate.

The shame is our politics have turned into a fustercluck of emotions and emotional appeal. . .

They needed proof that libs use the right hemisphere of their brains (emotional side)?
While Conservatives use the logical half to delineate fact from fiction, something any thinking person could have told them.

I think someone who has some of both is going to be the better leader.  Total pragmatism would fail at times by not considering the impact it might have on people.  Empathy means that you can understand how someone else is feeling, it does not mean that you have to decide based upon what makes that person feel the best.

I managed friends and even a few people with whom I had or was having a relationship with. For the most part business was business and personal was personal.  I wanted my workers to feel good about their job and have passion for what they were doing but the goal of a business is to make money so at the core of every decision was how will this decision result in a better, more profitable business.  Now a lib view would be what is the best way to make the employees happy right now.  Of course the answer probably is simple,  more pay, better benefits and less pressure to do work.  They will be happy until the company goes out of business.

I think the Dem's currently are 100 percent feel good and their results will absolutely mean that this country is doomed unless this course is changed dramatically.    I think the GOP is not completely by the numbers but  at the same time do not seem to understand the personal impact their views have on the people of this country.   Granted more and more are only looking for more money with no effort to get their hands on it but when they really screw up in an issue it always seems like they are totally surprised by the reaction.  I would rather follow someone who is thinking rationally than one who acts on emotions alone so the GOP is clearly the better choice although I would never join that party.  I used to be a democrat but now the whole party reminds me of all my college friends on a Friday or Saturday night.  All juiced up or smoked up talking about things that sound so fantastic at the time but if you happened to be sober at the time you realized just how F'd up it really was.  Maybe that is what is going on,  The whole party is on medicinal marijuana and are constantly buzzed up.  They sure sound it to me.
