Obamacare Enrollment to Be 4 Million Short of CBO Forecast

QuoteMore bad news for Obamacare arrived on Monday with news that the administration had lowered its expectations for 2015 enrollment to 9.1 million people, which is 30 percent lower than a Congressional Budget Office forecast of 13 million.

Health and Human Services Secretary Sylvia Burwell made the announcement in an address to the Center for American Progress, a left-leaning think tank, reported CBS News.

Some healthcare experts say that lowering enrollment expectations is a sensible approach in order to avoid greater disappointment if the goals are not met.

"If you set low expectations, you're not going to disappoint," Dan Mendelson, CEO of the consulting firm Avalere Health, told Politico. "It makes a lot of sense for them to put a stake in the ground."

A recent survey from Bankrate underscores the wisdom of not setting goals too high. According to the survey, just over half (51 percent) of those in the exchange said they do plan to return for round two, which begins on Saturday.

It is just the latest blow to President Barack Obama's signature legislation.

I actually enrolled in Obamacare after having a frustrating hunt for a new insurance provider who would give me just the coverage I wanted at the right price. Unfortunately I make too much to receive any subsidies, but even so I found a "catastrophic plan" on the site which was cheap enough and was nothing more than what I needed. As someone who hasn't been hospitalized more than twice in his life (once at 8 for pneumonia and once at 12 for a sprained foot) and is fairly young, I just wanted a simple "unforeseen serious emergency insurance plan", and nothing more.

I don't still know whether I'll be re-enrolling. Depends whether I can find an equivalent in the free market before the enrollment period expires.

And yes, go ahead and give me grief over this but I didn't write that pile of turd, I didn't vote for it, and didn't lobby for it, but in that particular scenario it worked for me as I was able to find something I wanted and I took advantage of it. I still had to pay my plan in full, as I did not qualify for subsidies, so it's not like I robbed anyone.

The main point of the OP is they are already downplaying the numbers in anticipation of a lousy enrollment period. If they don't hit their projected numbers what happens to premiums?
What does a 25% reduction in the CBO's enrolment calculations mean to the to the taxpayers or individuals premiums?

They revised it from 13 to 9 projected, and will actually enroll 5, lol.  At which time the media will fawningly run identical stories, from every outlet, declaring it a miracle and smashing success.

The only true read we'll ever get on ACA will be from the SC, and the 2016 election.

Are you saying that is has never occurred to you that KenyaCare is the very reason you couldn't find what you wanted outside the exchange?

That's probably true. I have thought about that

Now how could this be? We were told there were 40 million people desperate for insurance.
