The banner trust-busting legislation in US history is the Sherman Anti-Trust Act, which became law in 1890. Few people realize that the very first federal action under Sherman was against... the American Railway Union, in 1894. The ARU, organized by noted union activist and Socialist Party presidential candidate Eugene Debs, was at the time the largest labor union in the US.
