The "unemployment rate" is not a useful or reliable statistic.

The actual labor force numbers are the true measure of the labor market's health, and the unreported unofficial economy, well, it must be nice not to share your cut with the government.

What they are really celebrating is that people are not looking for work accepting a life of perpetual wellfare servitude instead.

I saw somebody figure out that if "unemployment" numbers keep "improving" at the same rate they are now, by 2035, we will have zero unemployment -- and no one will have a job.

I still remember where they would watch the unemployment rate drop on a real-time ticker if when Romney was elected.
