Again, this is more proof that its a win, win for Chiner.
We borrow money from china, we send those billions to South Korea to help the North out, and China just sits back and laughs.
Yeah, I see a unified Korea.

Obama is capable of any treachery, so we'll just have to wait and see.

I think the key to understanding the Kenyan is to accept that he doesn't see anything he does as, for example, "treachery." He honest-to-Christ thinks he's doing something wonderful for us, so damn wonderful that even we can't understand it, because we don't have his ability to understand this stuff.

The Kenyan is smarter than we are. We are insane to question him.

I think that's pretty much it.

Bingo, except for the part about repairing image. If they are the big dog out there, then who cares what slave states think, being tied so dearly to the Chinese economy? Is South Korea stable enough to absorb that many people? Doubtful.

Except that China's got considerations they didn't have when their economy was firmly in the toilet. Now China's got to concern itself with its international image because what people think of China will have an impact on their success doing deals.

If China's seen as a barely under control authoritarian state who's going to want to set up a business relationship that might take several years to generate profits? And China can no longer afford to ignore those considerations. Domestic order is maintained, in no small measure, by the anticipation of continued economic good times. There's pain here in the U.S. when the economy turns down but there's not much concern about bloody revolution. In China, there is.

I just wonder how much impact the digestion of Tibet has caused the Chinese leadership?

Yeah, it does give China a larger common border with India but so what? China's not looking to start a war with India not that conducting an invasion over the Himalayas doesn't sound a little nuts so what's the up side to China in their invasion of Tibet? I don't think there is one but there's plenty of down-side.

To an authoritarian an invasion always looks like a good idea but it's a lot less attractive if you're trying to convince people that you're a reliable trading partner. So invading and crushing China's troublesome, socialist neighbor may not be the obvious solution from the Chinese point of view as it might seem.

If Nkorea didnt have nukes they would all be working for Hyundai and Kia, Goldstar and Samsung. The only nail they have is nukes

We need to stop giving them rewards for acting like scumbags...everytime they are in deep doodoo financially they start this crap and we end up giving them money.

Call me selfish, but I would hate to see South Korea get overrun by North Korea.  Samsung makes damn good flatscreen TVs and great cell phones.  Hyundai is making some really good cars and crossovers, and Kia has come a long way since Hyundai bought them out.   ;D

When a rat is cornered, that's when he is most dangerous!  The Leader of North Korea would have to be a Madman to start a nuclear war.  Kim Jung Il would have to know that the world is so troubled with regional conflicts, that a real hot war could tip the very shaky balance to unleash a World War, such as the world has never seen before!  He'd have to care nothing about his own fate or the fate of his people!

CHINA is playing a very dangerous game of BRINKSMANSHIP, placing a lot of 'capital' on what they hope their pawn can achieve for them!  They want to ultimately control the Eastern World and see that Kim Jung Il may help to drive us out of the region.  OBAMA has demonstrated that he has very little use for our traditional allies and South Korea is near the top of that list!  CHINA thinks they can control what the Lunatic Leader of the nearly failed state of North Korea does, just before he dies!

QUESTION:  If North Korea NUKED our Troops in South Korea, killing thousands of our men and women in uniform, do you think the American people would demand vengence?  If it were discovered that CHINA enabled the attack (as they did during the Korean War), even if they never imagined Kim Jung Il would actually pull the nuclear trigger, do you think the US and CHINA could be dragged into a direct military conflict?  Once the nuclear card has been played, do you think it likely such weapons would be used in retaliation?

NO WORRIES.....Sec. of State Hillary's on the job!  No doubt she can diffuse the situation!

I think you took my post wrong..I wasnt denigrating those companies...I made an unclear statement that if it wasnt for nukes...North Korea and the South would be united even it were by force...nukes are their only claim to fame

The RED CHINESE are no doubt furious that OBAMA failed to deliver communist sympathising UNIONS into these highly profitable companies as his little surprise for the South Koreans and their coveted trade agreement (negotiated by adults in the BUSH Administration).  Both Obama and the CHI-COMS didn't anticipate the South Koreans would publicly diss OBAMA on the world stage by rejecting the deal, while Obama was in their nation!  I wouldn't be surprised if CHINA had their surrogate nation send a hostile message to both South Korea and Obama; that either they will play ball and peacefully move towards communism (like the US and Europe) or they will be moved towards communism by other means!

Actually I just made a general statement about the whole NK/SK conflict, in a "tongue-in-cheek" way.   ;D

Granted they have never produced anything the rest of the World is interested in buying, but its what they say in the article that says its near collapse.
With Kim Jong mentally ill stepping down and his son taking over, they see civil unrest once Kim dies and there will be no stopping it.

We may see a new Korea in a couple of years.

The only way you might see a new  North Korea is if a few of these military officers get together and perform a bloody coup. Unlikely, it has been teied and ALWAYS fails, not enough followers. Those folks are so brainwashed and so indoctrinated from Birth it is hard to get mass uprisings.

Something we should take notice of regarding of who and what is being taught in shcools, this Obamao worship is dangerous, the NORKS are taught the same thing.

But there is one little thing to consider in all of this.
Kim is dying and the military hate his son, they have absolutely no respect for him.
He didn't come up through the ranks, he is being handed the reins with absolutely no experience.
They would eat him alive if there is a coup.

And according to the cabels, China expects one.

Here ya go Billy, this should shed some light on what I was getting at.

Won Sei-hoon, director of South Korea's National Intelligence Service, told a parliamentary committee behind closed doors that the recent attacks came amid "internal complaints" about Pyongyang's third generation succession and worsening economic situation, according to a ruling party official.

"There is a high possibility that the North will make another attack," South Korea's Yonhap news agency quoted him as saying, adding that the government was trying to burnish the credentials of the designated leader who was still very young and untested, and also win new concessions from the international community.
