Sorry, but as an Army photographer, they were an excellent source of light.
We had 8 of them placed throughout the studio when I did official DA photographs.
I have no idea where you heard such nonsense.

This is actually very interesting. What type of lamps were they, what film did you use, and was it B&W?

I am an all digital shooter, so find the film world fascinating.

The market alwas goes with cheapest.

That's not true. The market always goes with the most efficient.

Have you heard of the Nash Equilibrium?

Full spectrum light isn't a high priority these days.
Because they can't make it using CFL or LED lighting.

Right, but they can make an LED with a color temp of 3700K, which is "daylight." Or any other wavelength they want. They can even be adjusted. Full spectrum bulbs are good for plants and animals that don't get much natural sunlight, that is true.

Both, B&W as well as color, in a 57x7 format.
I also had a Graflex 3 and  1/4th that I used for some in the studio as well as the field.

I actually own a 5X7 Graflex bellows, bt never use it, just easier to use digital.

Oh the lamps were just regular 100 watt bulbs, nothing special.

Personally I like LED seeing how I live on solar, they save me energy storage, but I still have some old bulbs for when I need real light.

Did you use tungsten film? It is my understanding that tungsten film makes allowing for the ~2700K temp of incandescent lights and makes them appear to be 3700K color-wise.

I have a suspicion that it's a matter of what one grows up around.

Thanks for the link, but that doesn't tell me how it relates to my statement that the market will always choose the most efficient.

"Efficient" generally refers to the relationship of quality or output to cost.  If quality or output is equal, cheapest is what matters.  If quality or output is not equal, then a value determination has to be made.  Is the better quality or output worth the additional cost?  Sometimes.  Frequently not.  That's why Harbor Freight sells so many tools.

Nope, we tweaked everything in the lab.

Efficiency has many variables. Cheap has one. Cheap is not the answer to the question you were answering.
