They looked like a POW procession

I've never watched a military parade in my life but the footage emanating from the US today is truly absolutely fucking pathetic. Bunch of unarmed soldiers barely able to walk in formation shuffling forward set to country rock, with tiny, silent crowds spectating.

This is mean but funny. The parade Trump thought he was getting vs the one he got

You do realize this was a tribute to the history of the US Army.
Anyone can pull video out of context and make snide remarks. And you fell for it.

I saw and heard the voice over history of the US army. I am a sucker for military parades and military music. That includes former commie stuff.  I did not yet find a clip with the US Army marching band. Most videos removed them. I was disappointed.

I found an unrelated clip of The Old Guard. It is very hard to get in as a snare drummer. They are very good and  kept the old style.

The USMC has a good drum and bugle corps but they are not  army.

I prefer this.

Short version. If you believe the story at the link at the end of this post, I found someone who agrees with me. Pres. Trump. My OP was not an anti Trump post but what I saw set my teeth on edge for reasons given below. It was not Trump's fault

Long version. I  cleaned my uncle's business on weekends for money. He gave me drum lessons for free. Around 13 he took me to a local feeder corps for a drum and bugle corps.  I made tenor drum. The next year I made the 'senior' corps also on tenor. 6 years total in all. Later my two brothers also joined. My mother helped out in some summers. My first GF was a tenor drummer in a small corps  in a nearby city.

My uncle recently passed away. I shared photos they never saw and told his family how his free lessons had such an effect. After my last year I thought i would forget about it but it stayed with me. I do not expect regular army to march like exhibition units like The Old Guard or the USMC Drum and Bugle Corps. Still I expect some military bearing and being able to march as a unit.

I read an Atkins book on part of WW2.  He described ow one unit landed at Normandy in Aug 1944. They fought their way to Paris and were pulled aside for maybe one day to get clean uniforms and maybe clean their vehicles. They were real army not parade dandies and marched through Paris.  I still get goose bumps watching the video. I suspect the music was added for the news reel. They later went to the Hurtgen Forest (pure hell)  and Battle of the Bulge etc. They were from PA, the "keystone" state and had a red keystone patch which the Germans called the "bloody bucket,"

Marching in such a recent parade in front of the US President was an honor and some acted like they did not GAF. Trump did not micro manage the parade but someone did. It was not Trump's fault.  I made an attempt to find the whole parade video but only found parts.

President Donald Trump was unhappy with his sparsely attended military parade over the weekend and blamed it on Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, biographer Michael Wolff revealed.

Wolff told The Daily Beast Podcast that Trump wanted a "menacing" show of force to celebrate the Army's 250th anniversary and his 79th birthday on Saturday—but got a "festive" parade instead.

"He's p---ed off at the soldiers," Wolff said. "He's accusing them of hamming it up, and by that, he seems to mean that they were having a good time, that they were waving, that they were enjoying themselves and showing a convivial face rather than a military face."

As thousands of soldiers flanked by tanks made their way past empty bleachers along Constitution Avenue in Washington, D.C., social media users pointed out that the soldiers were marching out of sync, and the muted atmosphere appeared to match the gloomy weather.

It does not take much to make me happy in this area. Below are some Christian Orthodox band leading the Patriarch into Jerusalem years ago. Some young some old but at least they are trying. Difficult to march up steps in the narrow streets.

Did you just post leftist hit pieces to back up your stupid assessment?  :bigl  :bigl  :bigl  :bigl  :bigl

I'm guessing you were never in the Military?
What you posted was a company moving to the staging area, where they will probably be at attention for most of the day. The CO and sergeant in charge saw no reason to strack march on the way; that punishment was yet to come.

I'm curious, what country do you hail from?

The video I posted is of the 28th Army division.  The parade is well documented including one Atkinson history book. It was meant to be  a show of force.  Leftists could not care less about a poorly executed military parade. They would prefer no parade and would hate a well executed parade as fascist or some such.

I am from the US and never served. Comments I see on the internet include those from internet users showing their older veteran fathers or grandfathers who are disgusted. Someone down the chain of command made Trump and the US Army look bad and heads should roll.

Search for military parades on the internet and compare for yourself.

Yes, and just like you, they too fell for the out-of-context video!
I remember marching, and marching Etc, I also remember an "At Ease" march, where in step was not required, but we naturally, for the most part, stayed in some form of in-step formation, only to return to "Double Time"!
Remember, a 3-hour march involving 6,600 soldiers can be trying on any individual.

I searched to see who was complaining, and I stumbled across this article, and it pretty much states the same things I just said.

I found several people talking about this being "At Ease March" which is intended to look like this for Drills and Ceremonies:

I looked it up and that appears to be accurate:

U.S. Army's FM 3-21.5 (Drill and Ceremonies)
This manual outlines marching commands and procedures.

At-Ease March
Definition:
At-ease march is a command given to permit soldiers to march in a less formal posture while maintaining a degree of uniformity. It is typically used when moving a unit over a distance where strict discipline and precision are not required.

Execution:
When the command "At Ease, March" is given:

Soldiers can relax their arm swing.

They may take more natural steps.

Their pace may slightly vary.

Perfect alignment or cadence is not required.

Soldiers must stay in formation and move in the same direction.

Purpose:

To reduce fatigue during long movements.

To allow soldiers to march in a more comfortable manner while still maintaining unit cohesion.

Often used during transitions between formal drill movements or when moving to a new location.

Key Rules:

Soldiers must remain silent unless otherwise instructed.

They must continue to follow the direction of the unit leader.

The formation should remain intact, though not as tightly aligned as in a standard march.

Command:

The command is typically given as "At Ease, March!" by the unit leader.

To resume a standard march, a command like "Quick Time, March" or another formal drill command may be given.

Comparison:
This contrasts with "Route Step, March," which is even more relaxed:

Soldiers may break step.

Talking is allowed.

Minimal regard for formation is required.

Commonly used in non-ceremonial settings like long road marches.

And I'll end with this...

I asked Grok to review and give me its opinion, and it confirmed the marching was not out of the ordinary or out of code:

Most armies in the world march in step for military parades. Especially when passing in review by the president. No one is suggesting that the army has to march in step every where. Why did the 28th div look so good in Paris when they were not even a parade unit? Who cares more about military bearing and marching well, right wingers or left wingers?

In r/military sub most posts on this parade are mostly negative, even in the OPs with positive or neutral sounding names. Some comments theorize that the troops were protesting by marching so poorly.

On a lighter note the Turkish band has us beat on mustaches.

Saw that too, so if there is a reason, maybe it will come out of hiding.
Like, say, some idiot at the Pentagon gave the order to be lax, I don't know.
You're right, though, apparently, it wasn't just a few out of context, but several thousand?
That's no accident, and soldiers need to be told not to march in unison.

I saw this done by US army in a parade on video once. They clearly moved the jeep down the street about 50 feet in pieces and put it back together. That should have been in the parade.

I watched a lot of videos front and center of Trump as they passed, they were horrible.
You were right, it wasn't a one off, or out of  context, despite the lack of attendants , and I'm certain Trump was pissed and Hegseth will probably see that heads roll.

I've heard these soldiers were pulled on short notice, as was the lack of accommodation's, where many didn't even get a bunk, just a floor to sleep on, others missed breakfast.
I'm sure Trump was unaware of this.

But I'm Sure He Noticed The sloppiness of the march.

I forgot that Trump was in a military academy and knew how to march. This parade must have REALLY pissed him off for that reason. The military academies in the parade were sharp.

My mom told me that when we lived near the university I loved to  watch the marching band practice. I was maybe 3 or 4?

I found some longer videos of the parade. I skipped around. It seemed like at least 2/3 of the units marched in step. All of the military music units seemed at least good. In looking into 4 or 5 longer videos I got a better perspective. I also got pissed off at the coverage.

1. I wanted to watch a parade. Silly me.
2. The on site narrator over the PA talked too much and seemed to include other video feeds from aviation and history lessons. I have seen plenty of Russian and Chinese military parades. The videos show the parades.
3. Some Fox stations making videos of the whole parade had the anchors decide that no one wanted to watch a parade but wanted to see the anchors engage in human interest stories.
4. I realize that having sponsors for the parade reduced cost to taxpayers but announcing the sponsors made my skin crawl. "Brought to you by Coinbase."
5. In the beginning I saw a military band in the distance. I saw the tubas/Sousaphones.  I never saw them play in front of the President.
6. One video feed focused on the Trump, Vance, and Hegsenth arrival and take their seats along with spouses. Then for a few minutes the entire screen showed them seated. Trump saluted a few times. Who or what what I do not  know. 'I think maybe there was a parade in front of him.

I like how many military marching units use old rifles with wooden stocks. i think the military academies used some and I know some Russian and Chinese parade units use SKS rifles plus some modern weapons.

I also like that most of the world adopted western military music instruments. I mean Japanese and Chinese both use western instruments.

Grok says
West Point: M1 Garand (primary), M1903 Springfield (occasional). Both have wood stocks and are used for their historical and aesthetic value in ceremonies.

VMI: M1 Garand (primary), M1903 Springfield (occasional). Similar to West Point, emphasizing U.S. military tradition.

Russian Troops: SKS (primary), Mosin-Nagant M1891/30 (for historical parades). The SKS is favored for its semi-automatic action and wood stock.

Chinese Troops: Type 56 SKS (primary), Type 53 (rare, historical). The Type 56 SKS is standard for PLA ceremonial units due to its wood stock and historical significance.
