Australian Associated Press: News agency to close after 85 years

During a briefing at AAP's office in Sydney, about 180 staff were told that a drop in subscribers and an increase in free online competitors meant the business was "no longer viable".

They were also told that they would lose their jobs in June.

The agency provided text, images and video reports on news, sport and finance to about 200 newspapers, broadcasters and websites.

The news wire will close at the end of June, and its subediting business Pagemasters will close at the end of August.

if I did not have the internet and alternative news I would know nothing about the recent developments towards peace in afghanistan...it is shameful what a pathetic job they have and are doing.

The worst part - or perhaps the most shameful - is they have been caught so many times lying...blatantly lying or twisting a story...and they have the nerve to feign anger that anyone would dare to call them fake news.

Agreed!  I said this at the other forum and it remains true today, the lame stream media has outlived their usefullness, Alternative media is taking hold and even some of us older folks are making the move over. I cut the cable years ago and so glad I did. People who suck at the teat of  the MSM remain in the dark, they are actually surprised that Trump has accomplished much of what he said he would.
The ability to look up anything, any speech, any remarks in context has left people with power.  The left uses sound bytes and snapshots (Dan Bongino) to keep the lemmings in place, they arent here to report a story, they are here to tell a story (also Dan Bongino) 

I listened to an interview with Candice Owens yesterday (earlier interview) and she said pretty much the same thing, once she looked up speeches and comments in full and in context the leftist media lies fall apart.

I know them, you've met them too, pissed off old libs, people who are angry at the man, think global warming will kill them first, that the ozone hole is killing the polar faster than melting ice. They think Maddow is a bright girl, Mathews got a raw deal, and Brian Williams was setup, Dan Rather had inside information.
