These kids are really scared of math nowadays.  Trigonometry, for example, is like alien technology to them.  It is so weird and sad.

Last week when in town I had lunch.  I gave the girl a 20$, she got out a calculator to figure out the change.  Even after that she could not count out the change, she just handed it back to me.  I told the manager he need to get a new cash register that tell them the right change to give back as he could be losing money.

It truly is sad, here we are in a Capitalist society, a country where innovation and entrepreneurship is the envy of the world, and these kids are being taught that success and boundless riches is somehow evil.

They don't seem to have the desire to make money.  I can't fathom that.

hahaha I LOVE doing that.  I do that every chance I get, and when they mess it up, I kid them and say "Not your fault... liberal government schools"...  I've been told I'm being an asshole when I do that, but I think I'm making a point and at least make these kids realize they need to start learning SOMETHING.

The only thing I can think of, is they've been brainwashed by millionaires in the Dim party.
Think about that for a moment, here you have a party full of Marxists, all freakin rich, belittling people for wanting to be successful in life.

You'd think libs would be smart enough to spot that touch of hypocrisy.

If we could figure out lib thinking we would all be multi-millionaires.

This forum just covered the major political donors in Koch Brothers  thread. The donations
were heavily slanted toward public employee unions -- State and Municipal Workers, AFT,
NEA, Postal -- it wasn't even close. Koch is a huge conservative donor at $17M, but a shrimp
compared to the hundreds of millions donated by people who are vested in big government
politics.
I am not sure if we would even have the numbers in the unlikely event that suddenly the tax payers would wake up to what is going on. Yet, we can have districts and states decide to be business friendly and reject the authoritarian central state. Washington will track us down, as witnessed by the recent IRS tracking, but the devil you know is sure preferred to the one you don't.

Why is it that those who preach "Diversity" don't want to allow those of us with conservative opinions to speak?  While I disagree with liberals, I feel they have a right to hold their opinions and to speak about them when and if they wish.  I am not afforded that same right by liberals.  IMO they are afraid of opinions differing from theirs in the event they might gain converts from among the libs. And actually, I further believe that many Americans don't know what the conservative opinion is although they hold it themselves, just don't know it's called "Conservative."

Conservatives are not intimidated by lib thoughts because we know they are wrong. Libs know we are right so they have try and silence us. It is that simple.

If the students were taught about the American Revolution, then they might
become curious as to the difference between the two systems: an authoritarian
monarchy versus a free democracy. That's where the trouble starts. It is not so
much that the Left discourages liberty, although usually more in terms of licentiousness
more than true freedom from tyranny, but the agenda of the left is to turn the minds
of the young to rebellion towards American tradition, which, they have drummed into
them, is a force of repression aimed at themselves.  This lie plays into the natural instincts
of teens, which in the words of Coasters, is "Why is everybody always pickin' on me?"

Over the years, I have seen example upon example of how our school systems have
encouraged denigration of the principles of the Founding Fathers and the Constitution
I simply lost track. Now I wish I had kept a journal of just that topic. I am sure someone
has.

Probably the earliest in my memory was that the Founding Fathers were rich white men
who revolted so that they could carve up the new nation for themselves. This was a left wing
notion that achieved almost universal popularity in post secondary education, at the hands
of left leaning professors who have since become actual symbols of everything that is wrong
in American education. Again, the mantra was perfectly tailored to the college age -- that
in-between age of identity seeking. The principle invoked was, "Everything you have been
taught up to the present has been wrong." The students actually ate this up. They were promised
the ticket into a life of ease as part of the intellectual elite.  What a perfect ploy for the left wing.

Another ploy that soon followed was that the founding fathers, including Jefferson, were slave
holders. This was presented to reinforce the ideas that the founding fathers were selfish, bigoted,
hypocrites. It also played into a very real condition,  which was that the left wing has traditionally,
in America, been excluded from the halls of power. That is one reason older, more traditional,
known as conservative, Americans are a bit shocked when they see the likes of Eric Holder and
Barack Obama in positions of power. It takes some adjustment to actually recognize that America's
traditional "enemy doctrine," communism, is alive, well, and very much with us.

I've had this happen to me. I'm more than capable of doing math. Here's probably what happened, or at least what happened in my situation. When you stand there scanning stuff all day rhythmically pushing buttons on a machine it's utterly mind numbing. You enter a trance, especially when things are non-stop for hours on end. To cope with the boredom your mind wanders thinking about other things, like tests you need to study for when you get off work. When you make a mistake and have to snap out of your hypnosis it's not difficult to screw up on things like you mentioned. That's why they probably grab a calculator. Most of those kids working the register are probably capable of doing simple math.

Hmm.. grab a calculator is one thing, but not counting change back is another.   They either don't know how or are just too lazy.

Also a cure for boredom, if you have time to lean you have time to clean.  Or if you have time for boredom you have time to clean.   But then I was always a SOB.

Counting back change is the easiest thing to learn, I did at age 7.
Problem today, is kids aren't taught it at any age.
