Looks like micky D's just one step away from replacing cashiers with self service ordering!! 10 bucks an hr anyone?
What's amazing is that you only need to provide a modicum of value more than a damned machine.

Gee, how could I do that ?

-Act like a member of team, instead of a sullen, nasty, selfish little shit

-Care in the least about the big picture - pick up some trash, clean up a spill, help somebody else with something, check the bathroom or the parking lot voluntarily (just be useful in general, lol)

-At least ACT like you care about the customers; speak nicely and positively with them, help the old folks or kids a little extra

-Act like the customers are guests in your home, care even slightly about their experience while visiting you

It's incredible that people can't even fathom any of these things about their jobs any more.  They can only think in terms of what's owed to them by the evil rich, on day one of the job.

It's like there are are only two alternatives now, the government giving me everything, or the evil company giving me a job and the reparations that come with it.

Yeah, you're right it is. Have you ever worked an assembly line job? The closest I've come to one is sorting vegetables on a conveyor belt and working a cash register at a big box grocery store. Both jobs my mind just sort of shut off and wandered elsewhere to cope with the absolute mind numbing boredom of doing the same repetitive physical task over and over again.

I think most cashiers (in big box stores at least) probably find themselves in this state of mind as well. I'm not saying it's ok, I'm just pointing out this is probably what's going on and why they get tripped up when they have to do some calculations manually. It's like waking someone up from a dream and telling them to solve a math problem RIGHT NOW with a bunch of irate customers contemptuously staring them down.

In another context, if they were forced to calculate each transaction manually without reliance on a machine to begin with most would probably be able to make change without a problem because they need to be more mentally aware while performing their task from the get go, so they're not going to be tranced out to begin with. They're going to be in a focused state of mind.
When I got out the AF as a Captain with a master's degree, I wasn't too sharp with my transition plan.

So I got two jobs, as a box sorter at UPS and a security guard.

My wife was still working full time, so I could have laid around.

But I got two "mind numbing" jobs as a direct result of self-respect and the fact that I was a grown man that doesn't like to act like a lazy kid or bum.

It was up to me to find something that I liked better.  But complaining about it, or blaming the job or something else, wasn't actually a solution.

I know, I was reminding Taxed of our conversation.
He was ready to boot JRP, but I wanted to give him a chance to explain himself and to apologize for trashing the members and the forum, as well as the TEA.
meh, I'll say what we're all thinking.

He's a pussy POS who doesn't have anything but snarky, snidely little blobs of BS in his existence.

I'd love to meet him and see what yields such a worthless existence.

All of this is true of all of our visitors from the various little sororities.

I'm sure JRP is a sweet boy.  He just needs to start embracing freedom.

There's no shame in working manual labor jobs. I've done plenty of them as well.

Honestly, my favorite job was clearing brush on a farm. I got to be outdoors all day away from people and noise, had the choice of listening to music if I wanted to as I worked, it felt good physically to do the work, and I had control over what I wanted to do and how I wanted to accomplish it. Same with landscaping jobs in general. Way better than office work IMO. But clearing brush and landscaping isn't really mind numbing, at least it wasn't for me. Not like sorting peppers. Man that got boring.

I agree... I liked the manual outdoors stuff.  It's stress free, and you can just let your mind wander while you work.

Speaking of another context, these are the people who to raise the minimum wage from what it is to like 18.00 an hour....they can't even count or get too "Mind numbed" at their job to make change and they want to double their wages....c'mon.
