Divided or Not?

The current talking points are that America is a sharply divided country and this last election proves it! And, that that division is getting sharper and more distinct with each passing day.

But, are we really? I don't think so!

Look at it this way, what choice were we given in this election? When you get right down to it... When you cut through all of the hyperbole, and bumpersticker bullshit, you have to ask yourself, how different were Obama and Romney?

Not very different at all, I think. Both have implemented Government run health care, Obama on a national level and Romney on the state level. Both have that Northeastern Ivy League Pedigree. Both have law degrees.

Some will say that Mitt was a business man and he would bring his business acumen to the presidency and stop runaway spending by Congress! Really? Where is your proof of this? Is that what he did in Mass?

I don't think so! Even if he wanted to, as it turns out, Harry Reid still has his death grip on the Senate and would have blocked anything Romney would have done.

And, in case you missed it, while Romney said he would "repeal Obamacare" (which he really couldn't do - it would have to be repealed by Congress) in the very next breath he said he would replace it with something "better".

So, we either get Obamacare or Romneycare on a national scale!

Forgive me if I have trouble seeing the difference there...

So, back to my original point. I don't think that we are, as a nation, that sharply divide - the political elite just wants us to think that we are because it make it easier for them to sell us their line of bullshit!

The reason the election was so close was not because Americans are so sharply divided over ideology, most Americans couldn't give a rats ass about political ideology, no, it was because the two principle candidates were so similar!

It was like trying to choose between a Nissan Quest Minivan and a Dodge Caravan minivan*!

(For those who don't know, the Nissan Quest and the Dodge Caravan are basically the same vehicle)

Romney? Obama?

Six of one, a half dozen of another!

In such a situation, it is only reasonable that half of the country will pick one and the other have will pick the other, if, for no other reason than "brand loyalty".
