There should be limits on Freedom Of Information Act inquires.

First, Democrats have used this as a weapon against Conservatives. They have inquire about everything under the sun in order to cause a headache to a Republican. This has to stop.

Second, how in the hell is a YouTuber able to get police body camera videos, post them on YouTube, and make money off of them? That whole thing should be illegal.
With all these lawyers with cameras on the street i'm shocked we have so much crime in the world.

There is constitutional law and there is law and order. This challenge to law and order is always the start to loosing our constitutional rights.

Frauditors are a waste of life.

Yeah, Republicans wouldn't dream of such a thing.

The thing is I cant think of any times the dems used this on the right off the top of my head, but I know the right has gotten ALOT of information exposed using this.

In general, IMHO, more transparency=good.

Let's hear what your limits would be.

Everything our govt does demands scrutiny. It wasn't always that way, but today, we have a communist insurrection underway and Deserves to be exposed ate every turn!

I guess nobody can read:

First, Democrats were using it as a weapon, and not for actual transparency.

Second, a YouTuber shouldn't have access to bodycam video, especially since there was no actual crime performed by either party and that person is trying to profit off of it.

When did the dems use it as a weapon? And I thought all police bodycam footage was public?

I guess you should show us where a youtuber used FOIA to get it released.

QuotePrimary Issue CNN's Email Archive of Sarah Palin.
I am personally on the fence about this, and am very interested to hear opinions on the merits and disadvantages of this type of action (the media posting the entire email-log of a politician for public consumption). On one hand, I am all for transparency when it comes to government records. I don't totally buy the arguement that political figures lose all privacy when elected, but their government business that happens as a representative for the people needs to be open and accountable. On the other hand, this is a circus. I don't think the Freedom of Information Act was passed expecting thousands of pages of correspondence to be posted for public exibition. Requesting budget numbers and specific official memos are one thing, but 'combing' a politician's life is another.

Secondary Issues As this email voyeurism becomes more common (there are lots of examples of 'both sides' using this tactic for dirt sniffing), should publishing email correspondence become standard? Evasion by using personal email - in the case of Sarah Palin, she used personal email quite a bit as well (and that was made available via this FOIA request). Should the government have that right? (Potential for abuse by evading FOIA requests vs. right to privacy using non-government resources) Media abuse - is the FOIA 100% OK as is and this is just a case of abuse by the media that needs to be addressed individually? Specificity - in the case of the Professors that have been 'email sniffed', the requests were very specific looking for keywords. The request made of then-Gov. Palin's emails was carte blanche. Does that make it any better/worse? Please, try not to turn this into a bunch of ad hominem attacks on Sarah Palin and focus on the policy if applied generally.

This sums it up: Sarah Palin was inundated with FOIA requests in order to punish her. We all knew that.

First, I will not give any YouTuber any recognition (unless we are talking about specific political voices or entertainment channels). In my opinion, they are a step away from being Cop-blockers. Some YouTuber deserves ZERO of this information. They are not a media source. They are not involved with this footage. They are profiting on doing this (which includes money or fame). And, stupid police interactions don't need to be put on the internet. If I get stopped by police (which will happen to me occasionally), I want that interaction private. I don't want some jackass posting online for ulterior motives.
With all these lawyers with cameras on the street i'm shocked we have so much crime in the world.

No social media person requires or deserves any of that information. It wasn't being used for transparency. It was being used personal gain. Profiting on that kind of information needs to be illegal. Not every single thing needs to be shown in public. Like I said, there are plenty of times I have interacted with cops. I don't get arrested because I didn't commit any major crimes, and cooperate. It is perfectly fine if it stays private forever.

Like her or not, Sarah Palin was a victim of non-stop FOIA requesting. They went after her.

And still you use it to base you argument, all the while refusing to post it?
If you can't or won't produce it, this gets moved to conspiracy~

If you are moving about the city, you are on camera. If you are in a department store, if you are in a checkout line, you are on camera. If you are on the street and get into a loud argument with some stranger, do not be surprised if someone if filming you. Long story short, very little you do is private. Did Palin get abused, probably, I am more frustrated with the fact mccain did little to help her out. But the solution is not to ban it for everyone.

QuoteNo social media person requires or deserves any of that information.
But the law was written so the average Joe could go to the courts to gain information, whether it is the notes from a closed city council meeting, a school board meeting, or the dash cam from an arrest. There are exceptions, national security for one, doctor/patient privilege, the list goes on.  If you are going to outlaw those on social media, you will be outlawing 90% of the people.

I am still trying to understand what exactly you would outlaw, for starters, if this helps, I would like to see the request be specific as to what information the person is looking for Ex. would like to see emails of Hillary and discussions with Steele about the dossier instead of would like to see all emails of Hillary. I think here is where Palin was blindsided. Second, I would like to see the person requesting the information pay for the expense occurred to gather the information. That one alone should cut down on many requests. How about a limit to the number one person can request?  The person requesting must have an attorney draw up the request? Is this the kind of change you are referring to or is it just getting something off your chest?
