Former teacher Mary Kay Letourneau, who made headlines after she had sex with her 12-year-old student, is back in jail in Seattle.

KIRO reports, she was arrested Sunday night and booked into the King County Jail early Monday for failing to appear in court for a suspended driver's license case. She was held with bail set at $5,000.

The Burien teacher became tabloid fodder in the 1990s when she was convicted of raping the sixth-grade boy when she was 34. She served a prison sentence and married her former student, Vili Fualaau, in 2005 when he was 22.

That picture was taken back when she was on trial in 1998, when she was in her mid-30s. She's 51 now, but I can't find a recent photo of her. It appears that she and her young stud are still together and living in King County, WA.

Why is it that pedophelia is OK if it's a reasonably attractive woman? I get it that a lot of people look at her and say "I wish she had been my teacher" but there is a difference between a grown man wanting to have sex and a 12 year old child whose brain isn't fully developed and who is incapable of understanding the consequences of his actions.

I agree that women are given a pass when they seduce and rape an underage child.  Ir's wrong, no matter which gender the offender is.  Society sort of gives it a wink and a nudge when a woman is convicted of this.  That woman in FL, whose name I can't recall, was a beautiful young woman but not so beautiful as "She's too pretty to go to jail," as the DA claimed and as the judge bought it.  The penalty should be the same for either sex in any crime.

Mary Kay LeTourneau is a pedophile and should be treated as such.  They all should.

Reality check. If you don't recognize the difference between an adolescent boy and an adolescent girl then you have a problem. I think many of these teachers trials have far more to do with the feminist belief that boys and girls are the same, than it has to do with harm to the adolescent. Interestingly enough most of these older women/younger boy relationships are found out because either the boy can't keep his mouth shut (he has to brag to his friends) of his mother somehow finds out - and she can't stand the idea of her little darling, with a woman close to her age.

Not sure who says it's ok for her to have a sexual relationship with a 12 year old, but then again, there are states where it is legal to marry 12 and 15 year old girls, so it seems that as long as it's little girls who are being molested it's ok.
