Every Ship Is A Target

Having trouble finding any current updates on this thing, although one of them *suggested* water is flooding into the forward holds - if I heard that right, the hull has already been compromised!

One of the other broadcasts said they have pumped 9,000 tons of water (!????) out of the ballast in an effort to float it, but.... isn't ballast needed on these tall container ships to keep them from tipping over?

Another newscaster said there were 5 Egyptian "Pilots" on board to guide it through the canal...?

Don't these big ships have bow thrusters to aid in steering?

Maybe someone with a little more knowledge has some answers, but, the media sources are basically repeating what they don't know, adding to the confusion.
------------
"Excavators dug Sunday on the eastern wall of the Suez Canal, hoping to free the bulbous bow of the Ever Given that plowed into the embankment, satellite photos showed.

Workers planned to make two attempts Sunday to free the vessel coinciding with high tides helped by a full moon Sunday night, a top pilot with the canal authority said. The full moon offers a spring tide, or king tide, in which high tides are higher and the low tides are lower because of the effects of gravity during a straight-line alignment of the Earth, the moon and the sun.

"Sunday is very critical," the pilot said. "It will determine the next step, which highly likely involves at least the partial offloading of the vessel."

Let's open all of the containers on a live internet stream world wide and see what happens!

Meanwhile, pirates along the Cape of Good Hope are celebrating Christmas during Easter week. The Cape of Good Hope is where 95% of the worlds pirates set sail to plunder cargo ships. The world had better send a massive fleet of patrol boats to the Cape or this is going to go south real quick.
Excellent Point!
And you are spot on about piracy, shit is about to hit the fan.

So far, this is the most anyone has had on it.

"BSM, the ship's manager, said Saturday Ever Given, which was en route to the Netherlands, had two canal pilots on board at the time of the incident. The ship's 25 crew members, all Indian nationals, are safe and remain on board, the company said.

It said the initial investigation suggests that the vessel ran aground due to strong wind, not engine failure, and there have been no reports of pollution or cargo damage.

However, Rabie said Saturday that an investigation was ongoing and he did not rule out human or technical error."

"...two canal pilots on board at the time of the incident."
I *thought* the canal pilots would take control of the vessel.  I also assumed they would be very experienced in weather conditions, WIND, etc., so something like this would be pretty common place for them.... apparently not!

I guess... the canal folks weren't thinking something like this would *ever* happen, so ill prepared they seem.

Hopes of re-floating the stranded 20,388TEU Ever Given following this weekend increased when salvage teams using Suez Canal tugs reportedly succeeded in freeing the stern and rudder section of the vessel.

Salvage teams from the Suez Canal Authority (SCA) have said that they have successfully moved the bow of the stricken ship five metres as the tide rises, but the best chance for removing the vessel will come later today as more powerful tugs arrive and the high tide aids the recovery.

Update to EVER GIVEN's status in the Suez Canal
28th March 2021
Having removed more than 20,000 tons of sand and mud, the
dredging operation underway has succeeded in loosening the EVER
GIVEN's bow within the bank of the Suez Canal and the ship's stern
has been cleared from the sand bank. The rudder and propeller of the
vessel are fully functional and expected to provide additional support
to tugboats assigned to move the container ship from the accident site
so that normal transit may again resume within the canal.

The rescue team is continuing the dredging efforts and will
resume attempts to refloat the vessel at 14:00 local time in Egypt
(20:00 Taipei time).

I would think that if the wind did it.  There would have been one hell of a storm  in that area.

Witnesses, locals, security guards, all said that it wasn't all that windy, that they've seen much worse and it never effects these ships.

Earlier reports that the Ever Given has been fully re-floated appear to have been a little premature as shipmanager Bernard Schulte Shipmanagment (BSM) confirms that while progress has been made the vessel is not fully afloat.

I love the note to the excavator to dig on the other side of the ship. I suspect they had a dredger on the other side, as well as a barge mounted excavator. But that does not show as well for the sensationalists as a land based Trackhoe.

These ships are very tall; catch the wind easily. And they like super tankers are horribly under powered; and have terrible maneuverability.

The best guess on what happened is that the pilots who were supposedly in charge got careless or stupid.  By the time they realized something was going wrong it was too late to stop it happening.

So anyone claiming that even a moderate wind would have no effect is either ignorant or a liar

Did you watch the video of the satellite feed of their course?
That wasn't due to wind...

Quite a sweeping statement - ignorant or a liar - is that assuming no ships pass through that canal unless it's 100% calm, since a moderate wind (whatever that is), would have a profound effect on any ship movement...?  I've been boating for 40yrs, on inland lakes and the big pond - waves are the biggest threat, not the wind.

Running it around, in a canal that sees daily use ... meh.... as Solar suggested as a possibility... yeah, maybe someone wanted to find out how prepared the Canal Authority was for such an event.  Even it wasn't "planned" - I'd put money on it, certain political groups & terrorists have been watching this very closely.

Considering that.....

#1. Our current government is widely suspected of rigging an election. Regardless of what you actually believe, a significant % of the population (possibly the majority) remain convinced the election was stolen.

#2. Our current government is allowing potentially a million or more illegal immigrants to enter the USA while currently providing the first 100,000 free room and board in HOTELS along with $1400 checks.

#3. Point #2 is being flaunted in spite of the Covid plandemic that was only important for a single reason (to remove Trump and institute a new world order). This all proved the Dims only care about themselves (votes and power) while WE THE PEOPLE are put LAST every time.

Considering all of that (plus a thousand other things I could write on) why would anyone put complete TRUST in anything our government is telling us about ANYTHING?

What is the connection for the post with the thread subject?

waiting... waiting... waiting...

a.  For the ship to finally make it to the destination, slowly sinking from damage, or just breaks up from stress damage.

b.  Two Canal Pilots tried and convicted for "something" ... but, were flogged and confessions beaten out of them ... or just found dead of lead poisoning...?
