It was never about money for workers.

Senate Democrats just blocked our bill that would have given railway workers a big raise and prevented a crippling strike and supply chain crisis.
If a strike occurs and paralyzes food, fertilizer, and energy shipments nationwide, it will be because Democrats blocked this bill.

Like any job, just enough to keep you working. It's not that much in truth, but for those doing it, it's fun and exciting.
But no one wants to be married to their jobs, and they aren't asking for pay increases as the Con (McCON-nel) would lead you to believe.
Point is, the Pols are using this as a political weapon. Fact is, the railroad need to work this out, they are not the poor victims they want us to believe.
We the people gave the railroads incentive to move West, something they were going to do anyway.

They were given every other parcel of land in the West, govt gets one, they get one, but just owning the land wasn't paying off, so they started logging the trees, created giant lumber companies to protect their assets from taxes. A tax system they worked out with govt. pretty slick, eh?

Think about that, the biggest industry in the US at the time next to overseas shipping was the rail, and they bribed pols to design a system that made them look perpetually broke while they made billions shipping lumber around the world.

Set it up to where the tax payer is perpetually in debt to keep products moving to this very day.
Ever heard of Sierra Pacific lumber? Yep, owned by the railroad, diversified just enough as to not look like they're connected.

There's a very corrupt and sorted past with rail and politicians, and we're being played to take a side.
