Chicago Public School teachers filed 10 day strike notice.

It's funny, when I was a little boy, I used to fantasize about living in Chicago as an adult.  Now, with the taxes, crime, and all this crap, I wouldn't do it for any amount of money.

Is this good or bad for Chicago students. Good that they will not be subject to goverment teaching if they strike and bad that they will be subect to the goverment teachings if they don't strike.

Now that I confused the crap out of myself, have a great sunday folks.

What!! There will be no one to take care of my kid 8 hrs a day.  Whos going to feed my kids 3 meals a day?  We are only striking of the kids.

Yep, just like the race card, the claim that "it's for the children" has long been worn out.

Of course. Those generous benefits have nothing to do with it. 

Job creation, the "old" teachers will retain pay and benies, while subs babysitters will have to be hired to pick up the slack.  Looks good on paper as a statistic.  Or maybe I an just being a negative nellie.

What kids?

This is about the right of teachers to make $100,000 a year for working 8 months.

They do know that the state and city are broke, correct? Do they think that politicians are going to take money from police, fire and sanitation for them?  Let's face it armed robberies, burning buildings and trash piling up are a lot more visible, than the fact that none of the kids can read.

Of course, but politicians tend to protect things that will make them visibly look bad. It's why when ever a town or city starts to run out of money they start cutting back on maintenance, or pension fund payments, stuff that isn't immediately visible to the public.

Good point, Giles. The same principle can be applied the opposite direction too. Ever notice that when a school district is going for a new levy or a renewal, they paint a dire picture of the consequences of failure -- always highlighting cuts to athletic and other extracurricular programs, the stuff that is near and dear to the kids, but ESPECIALLY so to their parents, who pull the triggers on Election Day. ("What? No basketball/cheerleading/field trips if this thing doesn't pass?")
