Colorado Dems who voted for the state's new gun control laws have been running for their political lives. Two were recently recalled in a race where the anti-gunners were heavily favored, with Dems outspending the recallers 8:1. The next recall target was state Senator Evie Huvak, a very vulnerable target indeed. Her defeat would have meant that Republicans would gain control of the Colorado Senate. Rather than take that chance, Huvak resigned (probably under incredible pressure from her fellow Dems) in order to allow the state Dem party to appoint a successor and maintain control of the Senate. The democraps are running scared up their in Colorado. They wanted to make a big hoopla over the 2nd Amendment now they must face the people.
They're the best cheaters...got to hand it to them on that front. And oh how they cry, scream and carry on when the GOP uses like tactics or things don't go their way. Everyone remember when the WI senate stomped off like children and left the state in response to the budget changes? Why everyone of them was not fired for dereliction of duty I'll never understand.

Wouldn't physically preventing someone driving his own car from opening the door and emerging from the vehicle fall under the legal definition of assault? If not, it seems that it ought to be a prosecutable offense.

Yes, and/or (depending on the local code) some form of unlawful detention or false imprisonment.
However about the only skill liberals have lies in re-defining words. So, where they're in charge - and Detroit would most definitely qualify - none of those definitions may apply to this particular case.
