Title: "I am proud to shut down the government for border security," Trump
Post by: Solar on December 11, 2018, 10:16:34 AM

Suffice it to say, Trump handed Fuglosi her ass on a tin tray,, she was so shaken, she kept demanding this be done in private and out of the public view. Well worth your 15 minutes.

President Donald Trump and Democratic leaders Rep. Nancy Pelosi and Sen. Chuck Schumer had a testy exchange and highly unusual exchange before cameras in the Oval Office over funding for Trump's campaign promise of a border wall.

President Donald Trump is meeting Tuesday with the House and Senate Democratic leaders, Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Schumer, in order to find a way to avert a partial government shutdown on December 21, when funding for the Department of Homeland Security and other agencies expires.

The central debate — how to secure the US southern border — has been stewing for months. Trump wants to build a wall; Democrats don't.

Ahead of his meeting with Pelosi and Schumer, Trump took to Twitter Tuesday morning to make his case for border wall funding and wrote "the Wall will get built."

Schumer has urged Trump to either accept the Senate's bipartisan agreement to spend $1.6 billion to boost border security measures, or agree to a one-year spending resolution that would keep those funded at the current level of around $1.3 billion. Schumer said last week that money can be used for fencing and other features, rather than "to construct any part of President Trump's 30-foot-tall concrete border wall."

He took the wind out of their sails. The democrats use the threat of  shutdown every year to try and get their way. They threaten the worst will happen. Billions will lose their jobs and planes will fall out of the sky. Never happens. Now the president is embracing what the democrats use as a threat.  He nuked all their leverage.

I find it hilarious that Pelosi freaked out the debate was public right after she harped about democrats being transparent.

With the help of the GOP RINO, they blamed Cruz for the govt shutdown that only Obozo could do and beat Ted up for weeks afterwards over it.
Now Trump completely flips the tables on the Dims and Nancy wants to hide and discuss this all in private but Trump will have no part of it.
Talk about controlling the table, the guy is a master, a genius when it comes to negotiations.

I mean, seriously, he literally stole all their cards, called their bluff and raised the anti in less than 15 minutes? The world must be in awe, while the libs here have no idea what just took place. God, the man is a master.

We have government shutdowns all the time. No one  notices so Trump saying he'll take blame costs him nothing. However having Pelosi and Schumer saying in front of the cameras they won't fund the wall helps Trump because every time something happens regarding illegal immigrants Trump can now point to them and blame the democrats.

Would you like the shutdown notices?  Do not give the worker back pay for a shutdown.  They just look for a paid vacations when there is a government shutdown.  Government shutdowns are not a big deal when everyone get paid for not working, but that not something new for some government worker.

If we look at this realistically it's all mouth and no trousers. I don't know what Trump is thinking because he is new to politics. Schumer and Pelosi and the rest know that come election time no one will remember the latest shutdown. The democrats have a better poker face than the republicans. Trump doesn't have a poker face. He simply takes  hatchet to the card table and then propositions the waitress.

If that were true, Schumer would keep his mouth shut. He's not, he's angrily speaking into any microphone he can find and repeating his message, that "Trump Doesn't Have the Votes For the Wall".
If he knew he had won the narrative, there'd be no need to convince the public, now would there?.
He's scared shitless, because Trump in a position to build the wall and there isn't one thing he can do to stop it.
Trump stole the narrative of shutdown, that's why Scummer has been relegated to whine that Trump doesn't have enough votes, that's all he has, nothing.

Newsflash Folks, I hope you are enjoying this Kabuki theater and puppet show, (I am) the Govt is ALWAYS shut down this time of year, funding or not. Speaking from exerience, most Govt employee's begin using up their "comp" time, "Sick leave" "Family sick leave" and Annual vaction time. Begining around December 15th thru January 2nd  etc, you can forget about getting anything done in "the Govt". DC looks  like a ghost town except of course for Emergency services such as Police Fire, Ambulance and of course the Hospitals who treat more gunshot wounds than Hawkeye on MASH.

Inersting to see what Trump said to these jerks like Ryan and McConnel to light a fire under their asses.

A WTF Moment... Roberts is being a whiny brat.

The Supreme Court on Friday dealt a setback to President Donald Trump by refusing to allow his administration to implement new rules prohibiting asylum for people who cross the U.S. border illegally, a key component of his policies aimed making it harder for immigrants to enter and stay in the United States.

The justices on a 5-4 vote denied the administration's request to put on hold a California-based federal judge's order at least temporarily preventing it from carrying out the policy intended make anyone crossing the U.S.-Mexican border outside of an official port of entry ineligible for asylum.

Conservative Chief Justice John Roberts, who last month rebuked Trump over his criticism of the judiciary, joined the court's four liberals in denying the administration's request. Trump's two Supreme Court appointees, Brett Kavanaugh and Neil Gorsuch, joined the court's two other conservatives in dissent.

Trump had criticized San Francisco-based U.S. District Judge Jon Tigar, who on Nov. 19 blocked the policy. The San Francisco-based 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals then refused the administration's request to lift Tigar's order.

Trump's comments led to an extraordinary rebuke by Roberts, who defended the independence of the federal judiciary and wrote in a public response to Trump on Nov. 21, "We do not have Obama judges or Trump judges, Bush judges or Clinton judges," Roberts said.

The asylum restrictions were made through a presidential proclamation Trump issued on Nov. 9 alongside a new administration rule. The administration has sought ways to block thousands of Central American men, women and children traveling in caravans to escape violence and poverty in their home countries from entering the United States, with Trump calling the people in the caravans a national security threat.

Trump's proclamation stated that mass migration on the border had precipitated a crisis and he was acting to protect the U.S. national interest. Trump's policy was crafted to alter American asylum laws that have given people fleeing persecution and violence in their homelands the ability to seek sanctuary in the United States.

Is it appearing we have another Bush "David Soutar" appointee in Roberts? It is going to take another Trump appointee on the Court to make it truly conservative.

Title: The eight Republicans who bucked on border funding
Post by: Solar on December 22, 2018, 01:18:00 PM
Eight Republicans in the House joined 177 Democrats in voting against President Donald Trump's border wall funding request.

Call this The List of Political Suicides. At least, it would be, save the fact that half are leaving office, anyway.

They are: Reps. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen and Carlos Curbelo, both from Florida; Justin Amash and Fred Upton, both from Michigan; Ken Buck from Colorado; Will Hurd from Texas; Erik Paulsen from Minnesota; and David Valadao from California.

Meanwhile, 11 other Republicans outright skipped the vote.

What were their reasons for bucking their party's tide — for turning aside their president's wishes — for bluntly telling the conservatives of America: Sorry, we're with Democrats on this one?

Waste.

Wasteful spending, as Amash put it in a tweet.

"This massive, wasteful spending bill — stuffed with unrelated items — passed 217-185," Amash wrote. "It's amazing how some wall funding causes my fellow Republicans to embrace big government."

That's one way to look at it.

I am really growing weary hearing all these interviews of folks on different sides of the issue. It is the same old blame game. By now people know where they stand on this issue. If they do not have an opinion now they are hopeless.

The good news today is Trump went to Iraq. This is his way of changing the narrative for awhile which is what we need.

BTW, anyone being affected by the shutdown?

We will be forced to close the Southern Border entirely if the Obstructionist Democrats do not give us the money to finish the Wall & also change the ridiculous immigration laws that our Country is saddled with. Hard to believe there was a Congress & President who would approve!

I see multiple benefits if Trump does this. First, it would really get Mexico's attention to do what they should be doing. It stops much of the infiltration. It would force democrats to get off the dime.

I'm willing to bet, he ups the ante even further, probably another billion.
The longer they putt this off, the steeper the penalty. Trump is teaching the art of negotiation.
