QuoteIn an effort to improve air quality across Utah during the winter season, the Utah Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) has proposed a seasonal wood burn ban, much to the chagrin of many locals.

The ban would eliminate solid fuel burning in fireplaces and wood/coal stoves from Nov. 1 to March 15, except for homeowners whose homes are heated solely by wood.
This is a great idea and should go national! (sarc)

Really? I have forced air heat and I don't live in a cold climate like Utah, but it's nice to have a fire in the fireplace on cool or rainy nights.

These people are taking all the enjoyment out of life.
The danger to America is not Barack Obama but the citizens capable of entrusting a man like him with the Presidency.

Let see.  Utah is bordered by Idaho, Wyoming, Nevada, Arizona, Colorado, and New Mexico.   Are they going to put a solid fence around Utah.  Let's not forget California on the West coast.  With all there problems that will also dump on Utah.  If they "only had a brain."

It would appear that the potential of reducing the estimated 5% of particulate emissions generated by burning wood is justification enough for a government environmental agency to regulate the little people.

I can see it now. Couple of years go by, and people start quilting those using wood for all the evils, from asthma, to arthritis.
This is how it always begins, give them an inch.......

I can see it now, next they will outlaw Forest Fires, Decaying Tree and Decay Fungus.   It's only a matter of time.

They banned wood burning in fire pits at Newport Beach a couple years ago because the locals complained about the emissions. Well, they have a new city council now that has basically said that they know some rich locals bribed the old city council members for the ban and that they're changing the law back to allow it. It may seem small but fire pits are a Southern California tradition and the ban had a negative impact on local businesses.

I realize the Utah ban is much more serious given the need for warmth rather than a beach fire pit but it's scary how much this sounds like a wacky California thing. They already ban wood burning fireplaces for new residential construction projects out here.

It'll be un-enforceable, won't it?  Who has the fortitudinal wherewithall to continually bring charges against homeowners who may or may-not be burning wood part-time?  I predict the ban will be defeated easily.

If you smell something, say something. The commies pushing for this will turn neighbor on neighbor ala Nazi Germany.

Nah.  You can't turn neighbor-on-neighbor.  It's unsustainable.  That's why communism ' the hitler-thing keep failing.  -Requires an unswerving devotion to snitching with nothing else going-on in your life anymore, and no tangible reward.

Every stray animal must be reported, every license-plate needs to be verified, every meter-and-utility box needs to be checked, every 'stranger' in the hood needs to be followed, every tree-trimming job, every home-improvement, every wisp-of-smoke, every loud-noise, mis-aligned garbage-cans, every flag, lawn-ornament, toys in driveway, crabgrass-patches... hooo boy.
