To open or not to open?

It's an important question, I'm sure most of us have children, grandchildren and in my case great-grandchildren.
I don't think there's anything in the world we care about more than our children. Autumn is just around the corner and school's should be opening but with the pandemic is it safe? Giving our obvious concern about our children's health and their safety, you have to wonder why is there such a large divide politically over whether our children should go back to school or not? If it's a given that we all love our children equally shouldn't we all be on the same page?

Are the conservatives more concerned about their children's education or going along with the president than they are about their health?

Is the left more concerned about making the president look bad than they are about their children's education?

What does the data say? What does science say? How are we to figure it out when they're are so many conflicting reports and opinions? And the hardest one of all, what is the truth?

Parents concerned about children falling behind as COVID-19 keeps schools shuttered: POLL

School disruption brought on by the coronavirus pandemic is fueling anxiety in a majority (59%) of parents who are concerned that their child is falling behind in their education, even while only 44% of adults with school-age children are willing to send their children to school, a new ABC News/Ipsos poll released Friday finds.
is this accurate polling?

A majority of all American adults (55%) are against public schools in their community reopening with in-school instruction in the fall. Nearly four in 10 parents are not concerned about their children making educational gains because of COVID-19.
Is this legitimate?

Why do 79% of Republicans support opening schools while only 20% of Democrats and 40% of Independence say the same?

I do not advocate reopening the schools with their current configuration.  Public education has become the main indoctrination site into socialism.  The problem lies in the fact that many parents need the baby sitting function that the schools offer.  The interesting dilemma is how to rid the school system of socialist teachers.

Your points are well taken and I agree. I would also like to see socialist teachers removed but I don't believe that's ever going to happen. There are options regardless of your situation or limitations. I have found this to be one of the most helpful websites concerning homeschooling. If you have children or grandchildren and you are concerned about the quality of the education they are getting then I recommend you visit this website. IT addresses the concerns we all have and also offers alternative to Public Schools.

Warning warning warning:
This is a Christian website so if you have a problem with God you may not want to visit.

If you read to the bottom of the page, or you just scroll down there are links to many articles about the evils that are being perpetrated on our children by their teachers in public schools. It almost turns your stomach to read some of this stuff but I assure you it's all true.

Thankfully i have two in home school and two in christian classical school.   And if i say so myself, i have extremely intelligent grandchildren down to the five year old.  They can talk, with intelligence.  They are able to carry on a conversation even with adults.  They are well adjusted.  Socialized and most importantly...CIVILIZED.    They know so much more than kids their ages who attend public schools.  They are advanced for their ages.    The two enrolled in Christian classical school may be homeschooled t this year if the school mandates the mask/glove/plastic shield idiocy.

My entire family and circle of friends is anti-mask, Anti-social distancing and have been since the beginning.

I know one person who has died WITH covid.   He didn't get that until he went into hospital for an unrelated health concern.  It is my opinion they killed him by denying him the meds that would have saved him.

Sounds as though you are one of the truly blessed mrs. Jones. Having a Christian family and upbringing is one of the greatest advantages you can give to a child.
Many people can't afford to send their children to private schools, they just don't have the means. Many think that they can't homeschool because they have to work. But there are many options. The website I posted covers a few options that people can consider and they only require a Little Help from family members neighbors or rearranging your schedule somewhat.
In my opinion a child's Early Education, both academic and religious, establishes parameters that will have an effect throughout their life

Hmmmmm,
That opens the door to a philosophic debate that I really don't have time to get into, or even want to get into. Good and Evil, right and wrong, Heaven and Hell and God and the devil is a discussion that has been going on since the beginning of time and will continue till the end of time. The subject is so deep and wide with rabbit holes at every turn it hurts my head to think about. From time to time I will get my feet wet but I refuse to jump in.

Trump Pushes 'School Choice' Solution in School Reopening Debate: 'The Funding Should Go to Parents.

I like the sound of that but I feel like Trump is beating a dead horse on this one. The Democrat and teacher Union opposition to this will be unending.

As the US wrestles with the reality of 4 million coronavirus cases, President Trump is asking Congress for an extra $105 billion in the coronavirus stimulus bill to help schools reopen safely.

The funding would help schools reduce class size, hire teachers, buy masks, and rearrange spaces.

The president has been promoting the need to reopen schools for weeks but on Thursday he acknowledged it might not be possible in the hardest-hit areas.

I think Trump is throwing it out there for traction in the debate over opening schools, in hopes of scaring the Dims into folding and opening up schools. This is also a direct reflection on mail in ballots.
This is not a debate the left wants at this particular time because they know they're vulnerable and could very easily lose precious ground as the nation is focused on the issue.

If Trump were to keep pushing the idea, he could seize the narrative going into November, definitely a winning issue for Trump.

It's an excellent point. As I remember, didn't the Obummer Biden Administration cut the funding for school vouchers in DC upsetting a very large number of blacks?
Yep,

A popular program that allows D.C. public school students to receive tuition for private school education has had its funding cut under President Obama's 2013 budget.

The Heritage Foundation wrote on its blog yesterday that Obama has cut funding for the D.C. Opportunity Scholarship Program, under which some 1,600 public school students have received $8,000 each annually towards private school education. The program was created in 2004 and functioned until 2009, when Democrats in Congress threatened to cut off funding. Republicans reinstated funding for the program last year.
