Senate leaders have agreed to hold votes on two measures aimed at stemming gun violence following a nearly 15-hour filibuster waged by Sen. Chris Murphy, D-Conn., through the night Wednesday and into early Thursday.

Leaving the Senate floor after 2 a.m., the triumphant Murphy announced he had extracted a promise from Senate Republican leaders to vote on two amendments he called the "low-hanging fruit" that both parties could support. The lawmakers would vote on whether to prevent people on federal terrorist watch lists from obtaining gun licenses, and whether to expand background checks in certain situations.

Republicans doing what they do best............'caving'?

I'm not really surprised that the pubs caved to emotion. It is an election year!

So the question is, "Who determines who goes on the terrorist an no fly watch lists?" Just another feel good measure that has the potential of being another freedom grabbing move by the government.

Senator Bill Nelson (D-FL) has proposed a bill that would require that
when a person on the terror watch list buys a gun,
the FBI is to be immediately notified.

Sounds reasonable to me.  Comments?

How about we set actual parameters for what constitutes being on a watch list before we take peoples rights away.?

You have a lot more confidence in the competency and neutral application of the law than I do. Do you want an anonymous federal bureaucrat determining your 2nd amendment rights?

This is a perfect example of the trap Conservatives fall into. We always try and fix bad law, instead of eliminating it altogether.
It's like Homeland security and all it entails, like NSA, in that we want to curb it's power, when in fact we need to eliminate Homeland completely and regulate the shit out of the individual govt entities with actual oversight, just like it was when we wore a younger man's clothes.

But..but..but, the parameters have to be kept 'secret' because it's a matter of 'national security'. sarcasm

I agree with what you said, however the reality is that will not happen in our lifetime. Unless the states and the electorate wake up and start sending real conservatives, rather than faux conservatives, to CONgress. That, and elect a Conservative President!

Yep, were in trouble...
Oh, like NSA and it's secret court providing warrants before they ask for them?
WTF happened to this country? We did just fine with citizenry protecting themselves via our 2nd Amendment Rights, that is, until we let the Establishment sell us out with lies....

I do not want a bureaucrat to be able to put anyone on a "do not buy" list.
Sen. Nelson's bill (unlike the other Dems' bills) would not do that.
It would only notify the FBI if someone on the terror watch list bought a gun.

The Dems, however, ARE proposing to
ban people on the terror watch list from buying a gun.
That would be stupid from a terror watch list point of view.
It would tip off people on the list that they are on the list!
Which would then prompt them to change their behavior,
and make it harder to find their accomplices.
