Police with Michigan's Grand Rapids Police Department are declining to label the recent assault of a white male by a group of black men a hate crime after video of the encounter went viral this week.


No not really a surprise is it? After they are just expressing their anger for the years of slavery they had to endure. The same goes for Louie calling for blacks to march on DC and kill whitey! Nope nothing to see here, just move on.

No not really a surprise is it? After they are just expressing their anger for the years of slavery they had to endure. The same goes for Louie calling for blacks to march on DC and kill whitey! Nope nothing to see here, just move on. 

People know black don't hate as they are not racist.  They only love to kill each other.

I recall when this Hate Crime BS came out we had to catagorize certain crimes as "hate Crimes" what I remember most was the training seminar I went to where the instructor (some idiot desk jockey) implied that "hate crimes" could not be committed against white people.

He's right. They were instituted to give special rights to non whites.

This would suggest a topic of interest. What, really, has happened to Grand Rapids? The demographics don't suggest causes for this kind of pandering, yet, it is happening.

According to city-data, the impression is that GR is suffering from general Michigan syndrome, old, outdated, not attracting the young anymore.  Those factors could have produced a likely target for leftist  political professionals.

I've always been under the impression that it is the 'prosccutor' who has the final say as to the type 'crime', if any, that has been committed, not the police. Am I wrong?

The Prosecutor decides on CHARGES. the Police, however must often CLASSIFY (by departmental guideline) the crime. Then a case number is assigned (CCN or criminal case number) then all reports of crimes go on the shift summary or Blotter....then distributed one copy to statistics and records, one copy to detectives for follow up, one to precinct commander etc etc.

NOTE A detective can change the classification of the crime after doing interviews of the victim and follow up. Remember in most cases there is no arrest so crime are put in a general classification for statistical data gathering and FBI reporting.

Just a side note.

Police heiarchy constanly put pressure on their subordinates (and detectives) to "re classify"crime DOWNWARD to make it look like there is less of a crime problem there their actually is.....

But you are correct a prosecutor would be the one to charge, indict or co author issuance of a warrant....and many jurisdictions have additional penalties and attachments if the victim is elderly, very young, handicapped etc etc.
