I don't really care about the subject. The reason I posted this was to display a characteristic of culture that no longer exists in our society, shame.
This is why I admire the Asian, particularly Japanese culture. You, as an individual, represent the entire family, and any act that denigrates and exposes your own character flaws, reflects upon the entire family as representative the whole of your lineage.

"To me, executives and staff who are my direct reports are like my children," he said.

"It's the responsibility of a parent to protect his children and, if a child causes problems, it's also a parent's responsibility to apologize."

Just a quick perusal of the article says "set-up" to me.

Hell, she used to work for GM, she might have done this on purpose just to bring (more) bad press to Toyota!

One thing I've learned about these kinds of stories, they are never what they appear to be!

Which is why I said I didn't care about the subject. So she had pain pills, who gives a damn?
Well apparently corporate did, and embarrassing and shame goes a long way in a culture that still holds ones word in the highest of regard.
If she wanted to hurt the company, there were far more effective avenues at her disposal, this one was simply childish naivete.

Like I said, drugs are secondary here, it's the fact that her actions brought shame on a company with a culture of supporting Japanese tradition of trust and honor in the highest regard, and her actions are a stain on that reputation.
It's well known that when one is given an opportunity to work with Japanese in the position we was given, the company is everything, you agree to do everything to the company, you are the life blood of the company, anything you do, any action you take is a direct reflection upon the company, and she knew this, and like a child, she made a mistake.

It's why there is such a high suicide rate in corporate Japan, the pressure to perform as a model citizen representing the best of Japanese culture, is for some, simply too much.

The same pressure exists in Japan (and China) for the kids to excel in their education and make it into impressive Universities.  Some kids cannot handle the intense pressure.

That is why Asia is killing us in many respects.  Our higher Universities are graduating more of them than us!
