Bill Gates took weekend trips to see ex-girlfriend while married to Melinda

(my wifey, would have killed me, even if she caught me DREAMING of a side-squeeze!)

"The outlet reported that the trips would include dune buggy rides, hang gliding, and walks on the beach.

The pair broke up in 1987.

"When I was off on my own thinking about marrying Melinda," Gates said, "I called Ann and asked for her approval."

Winblad added: "I said she'd be a good match for him because she had intellectual stamina."

Bill and Melinda announced on Monday that they would be ending their marriage.

"After a great deal of thought and a lot of work on our relationship, we have made the decision to end our marriage," the couple said in a statement posted to Twitter, adding that "we no longer believe we can grow together as a couple in the next phase of our lives."
