QuoteAccording to the Sports Business Journal, the sanctioning body is in the "early stages" of a discussion surrounding a ban on political sponsorships. The reported discussion — a NASCAR spokesperson declined to comment to Yahoo Sports about the story — comes in the wake of a President Donald Trump-supporting political action committee's purchase of a nine-race sponsorship on Corey LaJoie's No. 32 car.

The No. 32 car is far from the first to run a paint scheme supporting a political candidate. NASCAR has long allowed campaigns to buy ad space on cars and teams to put their preferred candidate's name on their vehicles. There were multiple Trump-supporting vehicles in 2016 ahead of the last presidential election. And, somewhat infamously, Kirk Shelmerdine got a letter of admonishment from the Federal Election Commission after running a car with a Bush-Cheney sticker in 2004.

If they totally ban any type of political messaging (including decals, paint, sponsorsship or NASCAR's statements), I am for that. I don't like politics while I am watching something for entertainment. But, I find it funny that they only have a problem with it now.

With all these lawyers with cameras on the street I'm shocked we have so much crime in the world.
This challenge to law and order is always the start to loosing our constitutional rights.
How come nobody was interested in educating people about these rights until online videos got monetization?

Don't bet on it. Teams are struggling for sponsors now. I understand it takes at least $25M for one car for a season to keep it supported.

Add to that a loss of viewership. The fans have always been predominantly white right leaning males, so to insult your base is only going to see a collapse of the fan base.
I won't be watching...
