Title: Higher Ed: Students 'De-Stress' for Final Exams with Therapy Horses and coloring
Post by: Cryptic Bert on December 20, 2018, 07:32:50 PM
The College Fix reported today that safe space "de-stressing" zones during the weeks leading up to final exams are becoming quite the trend this semester. The assortments of "activities" include some of the craziest uses of university funds...ever....

One of the most common services provided come in the form of therapy dogs, specifically trained to be as calm and affectionate as possible. Campuses such as the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs and Michigan State are just two out of many that recently offered the friendly puppers to pet and relax with in between study sessions.

Duke University went one step further. On top of bringing in puppies, the school offered what it called a "Stampede of Love" — miniature horses. Students were invited on the Friday before Finals Week to partake in an event led by a Raleigh-based nonprofit, staffed by two of their tiny horses, named "Kiwi" and "Lola."

We destressed for finals by studying.

What, no finger painting?

I remember a study done back in the 70s where they had students drink beer while studying, then they were given beer the day of testing and found that their scores were increased over the students given a near beer.
Does the idiocy never cease? Next year they'll have them smoking dope, oh wait, they already do that.

I tried the sleep study approach, where you record the chapter on tape and play it over and over in your sleep so it sinks into your memory forever, only problem was, I'd sleep through the test trying to retrieve the answers.

I'll be going now...

I don't see a problem with this. If they want to waste their time petting dogs and getting stampeded with love then that is their call. They will only have themselves to blame when they fail their exams due to their lack of studying. The college I go to offers services like these but in the service of free ice cream bowls or coffee. Nothing to the extreme of dogs though.

Most can't get jobs with what they're studying anyway - so there's not really a problem. Pet the pony - pass or fail. Get a non-apply-able undergrad degree if you stay for seven or eight years. Then get your Dim card and get on welfare. Solid life plan right there. So little stress ... except for the whole food / shelter / clothing things. That damn selfish 1% should take care of you ... and your dog.

Funny. My daughter is in early collage do to graduate high school with an AS degree. next year she is starting pre Med. to work toward A medical deg. This semester she is taking a full load of pre req's for that program. Seems highly stressful to me but I can't even get her to feed the cats let alone pet one!!
