When Japanese PM Shinzo Abe has braved it to visit the Russian city of Sochi.... against the will of Washington I got encouraged.... a bit. Really, I applauded. I think the time has arrived for Japan to choose the country to side with. Should it be Russia (able to let more Japanese investments into disputed lands) or the USA (where 59% of residents believe the atomic bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki was justified!)? Russia is far better choice imo.
Some experts assert that American nuclear barbarity was meant to humiliate the USSR. What if America will again decide to humiliate Russia? I hate Japan be forced even into some minor sacrificing! Investments into Russia look much more promising for Japan, I think.

Barbarity would have been choosing to continue conventional bombings - which were killing Japanese by the 100,000 per mission, but which were not convincing the Japanese Imperium of the need to surrender, along with the anticipated invasion of Japanese main Islands with an anticipated casualty rate of over 1 million Allied, and an additional 10 million Japanese casualties from both continued conventional bombings and the ground invasion. Choosing to kill millions to avoid the UKNOWN AT THAT TIME side effects of using fission bombs - THAT would have been barbarity.

It wasn't to humiliate Russia, but it was (in part) to intimidate Russia.
That, and the main purpose being to persuade Japan to surrender.

Any change in Japanese alignment will not be based on
