Arrest in The Lyons sisters kidnapping 40 years ago

I hope admin doesn't mind me posting this, but for me, this is very personal, and it points out weaknesses in our CJ system. I had some involvement in this case which shocked Washington DC metro area 40 years ago. These twins were kidnapped from a Mall in Kensington Md just outside DC. I remember seeing the sketch of the suspect depicted in the piece at a roll call with a briefing from the duty Detective that "this guy looks like a doper, so pay attention to the open air drug marts on your sectors".   (PCP was just begining to be a scourge then)

I also remember that we got information the bodies were buried in Rock Creek Park....near the Md Line and how we lined up shoulder to shoulder and walked through the underbrush looking for signs etc. The marine patrol also dredged the potomac in certain areas. A lot of guys put in VOLUNTARY time for which there was no pay or compensation in this case coz Nothing tears at a cops soul more than missing, murdered children

I'll tell you something else that is kinda weird, I remember that the Montgomery co police in total desperation turned to a A PSYCHIC who said that the bodies were buried ON A HILLSIDE, near a stream in VIRGINIA....

And no, I don;t believe psychics at all....but......

This incident had a major impact on parents who no longer let their children have so much freedom, adolescent girls going to the mall by themselves in that era was no big deal. SO who knows how many kids were saved by more restrictive parents.

Last, what the hell is going on with the CJ system where this guy gets out after only 4 year incarceration on child abuse charges and gets rearrested again.....

I can;t help but wonder how many other missing murdered children he and his clan of scum bags are responsible for.

Very sad story.  I am somewhat familiar with that area and lived near there in the late 60s.

For those unfamiliar with the geography of the area, it is all rolling hills and streams. A "psychic" saying that the girls were buried on a hillside near a stream, would be kind of a like another "psychic" saying of a person who went missing in the Sahara "I see... sand... "


I remember this case and spent a lot of time in the area.
