Ted Cruz, in Detroit, and about Detroit....

QuoteLet me start by observing that Detroit is a great city with a magnificent legacy that has been utterly decimated by 60 years of failed left-wing policy.

You know, Henry Ford revolutionized automobile manufacturing and brought automobiles to the middle class. During World War II, Detroit provided — funded the arsenals of democracy to help us win World War II. In — in the 1960s, Detroit was the Silicon Valley of America. It had a population of 2 million people, had the highest per capita income in the country.

And then, for 50 years, left-wing Democrats have pursued destructive tax policies, weak crime policies, and have driven the citizens out.

This city now has just 700,000 citizens. There are vacant homes, one after the other after the other. Crime has been rampant, and it is an outrage. And let me say to folks in the media: That is a story that the media ought to be telling over and over again, the destruction of left-wing policies and the millions who have hurt because of it.

With an adult functional illiteracy rate estimated at 47%, add in unionized leftist teachers failing the public but helping the corrupt officials remain in power. The single most amazing part about liberals is how they can have 100% Dems in power but blame Republicans for 100% of the problems their asinine behavior causes.

What a great moment for Teddy. Priceless.
People sleep peacefully at night because there are a few tough men prepared to do violence on their behalf.

A foolish man complains about his torn pockets.

A wise man uses it to scratch his balls.

Of course, ANYONE talking about Detroit will get around to its public corruption, sooner or later. The city and Wayne County in general are complete jokes: prime examples of malfeasance in office compounded by crooked judges at 36th District Court helping the true felons escape.

From the moment Coleman Young became mayor in the 60s, that city began its slow swirl around the toilet bowl and the momentum is only increasing. The city now has a severe shortage of ambulances and fire trucks. Fire stations are under-equipped and there are reportedly hundreds of fire hydrants no longer even working, assuming the truck did work and did get there. And meanwhile they bulldoze the crack houses and burn down a shack for the insurance and it's "Life Goes On" in Day-twah....

Dont forget that theif Kwame Fitzpatrick who wound up in jail over his corrupt administration of the city.

Cruz hit a homer with that statement but I would have like to seen him say something about reopening the factories retooling them and giving businesses incentivized tax breaks to start industry output again in the "motor city' doesn't have to be cars, could be anything, but employment will do wonders on that place.

Here's a graf from the Detroit Free Press story today on the resignation of the Wayne County Treasurer after only a few months on the job.

QuoteThe change comes at a challenging time for the treasurer's office, which is again facing a massive wave of tax foreclosures. The number for 2016 was estimated last year at 70,000 properties.

The resignation was said to be for personal reasons.

Photojournalist Steve Neavling at Motor City Muckraker has a superb set of photos taken Thursday when the GOP debate rolled into town. Partisans: this ain't all that pro-GOP but it IS in fact great photojournalism.

CREDIT WHERE IT IS DUE. See the sidewalk protests and get a real feel for the left's view of that event. The ones about arresting Gov. Rick Snyder over the Flint water crisis are particularly good. This is "hot-linked" from his site (but I hope he'll forgive.)
