Isaiah 17:1 "The burden of Damascus. Behold, Damascus is taken away from being a city, and it shall be a ruinous heap."
Short and to the point - the verse is just there and nowhere else this clear.
Damascus is the oldest continually inhabited city in the world.  This verse says it will no longer be a city - which has never happened before.

1 Thessalonians 4:13 But I would not have you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning them which are asleep, that ye sorrow not, even as others which have no hope.
14 For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with him.
15 For this we say unto you by the word of the Lord, that we which are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lord shall not prevent them which are asleep.
16 For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first:
17 Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.
18 Wherefore comfort one another with these words.

"Asleep" is also physically dead.  Lazarus was called "asleep" 4 days & in a grave, before Jesus resurrected him.  Vs.15 those who are still alive, ie. 'breathing' will not hinder or go before them which are dead, they shall go first.
Vs 16. The trump of God is considered to be Michael the Archangel, blowing a Trumpet to both wake the dead first, 'breathing believers' rise second - everyone meets the Lord Jesus in the AIR.  These verses are prophetic in how it takes place, but, they're really meant to "comfort" those who had loved ones proceed them in physical death - you'd see them again.  The idea of the RAPTURE comes from here.

These verses are *not* considered the "second coming", which is in judgement, but, it is considered the END of the Church Age.  Just as Pentecost was a transition point, the beginning of the Church Age, the Rapture is the END of the Church Age.  The 69th week of Daniel PAUSED with the beginning of the Church Age, the resumption of God's dealing with Israel (specifically Israel) and the resumption of the *purpose* of Israel to be a light of God to the world (ie, 144,000 evangelists, 12,000 from each of the 12 tribes of Israel), will begin.  For the next 7 years, or 70th week, Israel will finally *DO* the task God had in mind, evangelists to the entire world.

The "Church" is the "Bride of Christ".  Looking back at how a Jewish Bride was "stolen" when nobody expected and taken to the "house" or "mansion" the Groom had been preparing - there followed a 7 day feast, a wedding celebration.  Following that, the Groom returns with his new Bride, and is revealed to the rest of the city/world.  In this case, 7 days = 7 years, which coincides with what's called "Jacob's trouble" - or the "great tribulation".  The judgments in Revelation is NOT for the Church.  The Church will be in Heaven at the Marriage Supper of the Lamb, the judgments are for those who have not received / trusted in, Jesus Christ, and remained on earth.  The Marriage Supper of the Lamb is in heaven / the Bridal Chamber, where all will be open, laid bare before the Lord, anything hid will be known.

17 "...so shall we ever be with the Lord.
18 Wherefore comfort one another with these words."
Words of encouragement, although our sins, which are many & great - or the sins of those whom were cleansed at the final moments of life - that decision to ask God for forgiveness and trust in the finished work of Jesus on the cross, has *eternal* consequences.  There is no "partial payment for sins" at the cross, payment is complete and eternal.  So, be comforted, if they made a profession of faith, you'll see them again.

NOTE:  During the Old Testament, the Holy Spirit was "given" for specific purposes, acts of valor, faith, prophecy, etc., and then LEFT that person.

Jesus said if He went away, He would send a "Comforter", ie, the Holy Spirit, Who would dwell in the believer, to help, comfort, convict of sin / righteousness, *AND* give us the words to say when we needed it the most.  (see Stephen in Acts).  The Holy Spirit was given at Pentecost, without measure.

At the end of the Church Age, the Holy Spirit will LEAVE with the believers, the "restrainer" will be taken away, and the man of lawnesses will be revealed.  The "restrainer" or Holy Spirit is preventing the False Prophet (mirror of John the Baptizer) and anti-christ (mirror of Jesus) from being revealed.  It has been speculated ... Satan has someone 'waiting in the wings' for that moment, when he can reveal his 'other-christ' or 'anti-christ'.  Apostle Paul said there would be MANY anti-christs.

That's what happens when the local churches are shuttered.  Believers start looking around for 'spiritual food'... a good thing.  How a believer could go months, or a year, without ... geeeeeee, I suppose it can happen, but, I cannot.  the older I get, the more I realize how little I really know about the Lord.  I find the Bible fascinating.

I'll be honest, the tiny little church out in the country where we go offers nothing in the way of teaching.  They're all grandparents like us, the pastor has been there 37 years and the people just keep coming because they like each other. The pastor is a "nice guy"... loves Roy Rogers and John Wayne and is something of a "hang in there" motivational speaker, but really just grabs a verse to support whatever his topic is.  It's all kind of sad and kind of sweet, at the same time.  They didn't close with the whole virus thing, they're so far out in the sticks, no one would notice or care.  We only go because I lead the music and my husband runs the sound board and they seem to need us (plus we really love them).  But we get our teaching all during the week from good, solid sources (like Jack and the others).  We just have to, or starve.

Mark 13:3And as he sat upon the mount of Olives over against the temple, Peter and James and John and Andrew asked him privately, 4Tell us, when shall these things be? and what shall be the sign when all these things shall be fulfilled? 5And Jesus answering them began to say, Take heed lest any man deceive you: 6For many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ; and shall deceive many. 7And when ye shall hear of wars and rumours of wars, be ye not troubled: for such things must needs be; but the end shall not be yet. 8For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be earthquakes in divers places, and there shall be famines and troubles: these are the beginnings of sorrows.

---
The beginning of sorrows, IMO, is the beginning of the Tribulation, however I cannot see anything that says we wouldn't start seeing any of this *now*.. so a small degree.   I think the sorrows, are, "Jacob's Troubles".  And we are seeing "Nation rising against Nation" - "Race rising up against race" on a world-wide level with BLM, Arabs going after Jews with renewed vigor.

There's something... I'm watching for, besides the destruction of Damascus - many Jews have already returned to Israel, except why are we're still not hearing of a mass exodus of American Jews leaving?    Could be, some of them will never leave, Bernie Sanders, Dianne Feinstein, Charles Schumer, Richard Blumenthal, for example - "WAIT A SEC!  These are some of the *most* irreligious Senators you can think of!!!"  Yes.  I think the return to Israel initially will not be for religious reasons, but SECULAR, they'll become *uncomfortable*.  The old song, Willing to Go, "God doesn't make us go against our will, He just makes us willing to go".  the religious awakening probably starts midway through the Tribulation.  I'll be Raptured, along with the Church - so, I won't be here to see those 7 years.

"7And when ye shall hear of wars and rumours of wars, be ye not troubled: for such things must needs be; but the end shall not be yet."
This is a "reversal" from the peaceful years of Donald Trump, wars were *ending*.  For the person following Bible Prophecy - Donald Trump was like a pause, a reprieve from the end-time march.  Joe Biden is bringing China, Russia, Afghanistan, Turkey, Iran, the So., China Sea, No. Korea, Taiwan - right into the forefront again, where's the next war gonna be touched off - just take your pick!  Under POTUS Trump (libs hate that), nation after nation was recognizing Jerusalem as the capital of Israel, Trump was forefilling a promise, numerous POTUS had made and not deliver.  on the one hand, we were scratching our heads, "What's this mean?" - on the other hand, is a "revival coming?"

8"For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be earthquakes in divers places, and there shall be famines and troubles: these are the beginnings of sorrows.
OK, WHERE are the earthquakes, famines & troubles - the kind of stuff that creates massive problems and potentially triggers global responses?  More than the Yellowstone "dome" eruption, or something here in America, a famine in Africa.  It's the diverse places, sort of scattered across the globe, I'm thinking of.  Earthquakes where you wouldn't expect, famine where it's never happened before - WHY? you might wonder...?   God is trying to get some attention, Blessing us ... falling on deaf ears.  Nothing get's a nation's attention like destruction (sorry to say that)... these are the beginning of SORROWS, not blessings.  Another reason, I'm inclined to put this into the beginning of the Tribulation.

Matthew 24:7 For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be famines, and pestilences, and earthquakes, in divers places.
8 All these are the beginning of sorrows.
9 Then shall they deliver you up to be afflicted, and shall kill you: and ye shall be hated of all nations for my name's sake.
10 And then shall many be offended, and shall betray one another, and shall hate one another.
11 And many false prophets shall rise, and shall deceive many.
12 And because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold.
13 But he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved.
14 And this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations; and then shall the end come.
15 When ye therefore shall see the abomination of desolation, spoken of by Daniel the prophet, stand in the holy place, (whoso readeth, let him understand:)

Again, I think this is during the Tribulation.  God will have His 144,000 witnesses preaching the Gospel throughout the world, Satan will have "counter" with his false prophets - and I expect the false prophets be doing miracles.  This, I believe is very important!   Will people believe Satan because of a miracle (see.. I'm god, I just healed this person, gave you the ability to see again), or will they "believe the Word of God".  Believe because of a miracle -or- believe because God *said* it?

Jesus chastised the crowds, 'you believe because I fed you', or because of a miracle?  and then asked the Disciples, 'you going to go away too?' to which Peter answered, 'you have the words of LIFE.'

Remember, during the Tribulation, God will be bringing *judgement* on the earth, and people still will not repent and turn from sin.  At the least, God will be a daily annoyance, trying to get their attention.  The spiritual battle will start slowly, and just intensify for the souls of mankind.
Believe because of a miracle -or- believe because God *said* it?  People will *WANT* to choose against God.
