I had a Japanese friend in 1961(?) who was telling the class that Godzilla was real. No amount of convincing would shake him, it was akin to Santa Clause, he just needed to come to it on his own in his own time.
Name was Imai, pronounced E-My, loved that guy, not the sharpest kid, but he always had the latest toys from Japan.
