I've always found the term homophobic to be akin calling someone a racist, in an attempt to steal the truth in setting a narrative that you are somehow automatically wrong and a convicted bigot.

I would like to introduce a single word to combat such ignorance.
"recuso" Latin for, remonstrate, to reject against. So instead of being set on the defensive, simply respond with, "No, I'm Homorecuso".
If they ask you what that's supposed to mean, simply point out their ignorance and tell them to look it up.
